If you can shred it then any local animal charity will probably use it, where I rescued my dog from have a huge 'bunker' for donations of shredding.

any caged animal can be bedded on shredding so do any of the charity workers have hamsters / rabbits?

Thanks yes, that's what I meant in my initial post about making paper logs, I already have one of those gizmos, but printer paper etc doesn't stick together in it, they only seem to work with paper that goes squidgy, like newspaper.

ooppssss! Sorry I was eager to pass on my idea before rushing out and didn't read your post properly :o

  • Any other bright ideas please?

I've done a search and found an olfer thread on getting rid of sensitive paperwork. Post 2 is ingenious :T

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll merge this thread with that one so that you can browse other suggestions.

I've got a similar problem with lots of handwritten files to go through before I can bin them:( People, please sort out those old papers instead of leaving it for someone else to do! I have birthday cards etc with names and addresses on which could be identified so I reckon the only solution is to burn them. I've bought one of those garden incinerator bins and am going to make the most of the autumn by pretending to be burning garden rubbish! Pity though as they could be warming someones home. Wish that I had an old-fashioned fire...:)

I am considering burning it all in the barbeque grill. It is one of those with the lid. anyone tried that?

We managed to break two shredders, one of which will just about work now for single sheets, fed in very carefully,so I bought an incinerator and spent about an hour every so often burning the lot, which is much quicker than laboriously shredding. But I also bought a 'stamp' thing from good old Lakeland, it prints a block of jumbled up text so you can completely cover names, addresses, bank codes etc and then the document is quite safe in the recycling bin. It wouldn't work for masses of files from an office, but is fine for domestic security. My Oh laughs at me too and puts his confidential stuff in the ordinary bin - we have squabbles about this all the time but he won't listen :(
  • Morganlefay - if you are still about - where did you get your incinerator please (if you are happy with it!). Do you place it on a concrete slab or just on the grass? I'm a complete novice so any advice useful - e.g. I've got a cardboard box full of papers - can I just shove the whole thing is and set fire to it or should I add handfulls at a time?

    Thanks
    Sparkly

    Holy thread necromancy.

Might this poster have an ulterior motive for doing this??
