I always compost my paperwork with info on0

I agree with Mommygoose. I always shred mine and add it to the compost heap. It's also very useful if you are going camping and have a kelly kettle.0

Thanks, great ideas rolling in already, I'll have to divide it up so each idea gets its own fair share - not sure I can face all the shredding though!
I have a little campervan so all mod cons are onboard, shreddings not required!
There will probably be around 4 or 5 four-drawer filing cabinets full, all told, when I've finished sorting.
thanks again

Thanks
Hehe. Should be good for roasting a few marshmallows on it then! :rotfl:
On a more serious note, there are companies that do secure paper shredding directly aimed at disposal of confidential information.
A quick bit of Googlying gives http://www.shredcare.co.uk/ as an example. Haven't used them so no idea what they cost or what they are like, but they do say on their homepage that they do one off collections which may suit you.No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0 -
Make ' log bricks' out of it for the fire this winter.
Those little machines that turn the paper into logs only cost around £15, cheap fuel?

Thanks yes, that's what I meant in my initial post about making paper logs, I already have one of those gizmos, but printer paper etc doesn't stick together in it, they only seem to work with paper that goes squidgy, like newspaper.0 -
I believe there are organisations which will handle large scale commercial paper shredding. If you're a charity, they might be prepared to do the shredding for nothing. If you want the shredded paper back possibly local riding stables might be interested in having it for horses' bedding, or local allotments might be happy to take it for bulk composting facilities.0

we had one of the big paper shredders come to work for the day - and i hate to say iy but a few filing cabinets rpobably wouldn't be worth their while.
we had 100's of black bags to get through.
spend a few friday afternoons an hour a week maybe???
do things like the old minutes actually need to be shredded?
could you tear out the pages with confidential info on to shred, and recycly the rest?
where i work we would have governance issues with someone taking this kind of waste any where for a bonfire incase it got lost on the way or bits blew off in the wind etc....
good luck.

Quite right too, it shouldn't be happening but the alternative is that the stuff just clogs up the office space/someone else's home if I don't take it away. They're all too scared to make the decision!
The minutes do need to be disposed of securely as although generally individuals aren't named, situations which might equally identify people are described.
You've all given me an idea though, I might ring the local council and ask to piggyback on their confidential waste collection day - I'm sure they wouldn't mind!
