Non-cooked food

Hi all, was wondering if I could pick your brains for some ideas. We're moving into our new house over the weekend and we don't have an oven yet so we need some ideas for food that doesn't require any cooking. Apart from the obvious sandwiches and salads route, I'm a a bit stumped. I've stocked up on crisps and biscuits as emergency food, but wanted something a bit more healthy and balanced, especially as we don't know how long it will be til we can get our cooker.

Could you borrow a George Forman or the like?
What about getting a camping stove?

I was considering a camping stove, are they safe to use indoors? We have a slow cooker too, but obviously stuff takes hours to cook in there and I don't want to have to rely on it all of the time

Ainsley Harriot Cous Cous which you just add hot water too. You could have that with cold meats/salad.

If you have a microwave can you set that up for a quick meal or ready meal

You could buy an electric ring rather cheaply

you can get microwaves dirt cheap now. Thy're useful for defrosting things too once you've got your oven. it opens the way to jacket potatoes with beans and cheese :D

No microwave, I know they're cheap as chips now but we're too skint to be thinking about getting one for a few weeks at least, all the other furniture and moving costs have wiped out out our budget so we're living on a shoestring.

  • I would go the George Foreman and camping stove route, you can cook almost anything on them and I would use the slow cooker for a roast.
You can get a George Foreman with a Griddle for £58.49 in Argos. A camping stove is safe if you keep the room well ventilated, but if you are unsure, buy a double ring for £29.39 or you could get a mini oven with rings on top for £78.29
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

  • you can get pasta, noodle and such like that you just add hot water too so you can have something hot for your dinner. most supermarkets do there own brands if you want to keep it cheap. You could add salads to these to keep them healthy make a fruit salad for pudding, have cereals for breakfasts and have sanwhiches for lunch. You could get crackers and cheeses, breads, meats, olives e.t.c
