Hello! I went to Costco this morning and bought, amongst other things, a bulk quantity of bagels (these Costco ones are delicious, not a patch on Tesco's btw). The bagels in questions are freshly made and suitable for freezing, and freezing is what I intend to do with them.
The problem is I am not sure how to go about defrosting them.
Let me explain before you think I'm a total idiot
if I was to use these myself, I would let them soften at room temperature then finish them off briefly in the oven so that I'm confident not only that they are defrosted, but that they are also dry. Plus the heat will make them all soft and yummy....
However..... I want to use the bagels as part of my hubby's lunch, to take to work. He does not have access to an oven - not even a microwave one.
How do I ensure he can leave in the morning with a bagel that is both edible (non icy) and preferably not too soggy?
Do I need to take one bagel out of the freezer the night before, or is the morning enough for the lunch? Do I put the bagel to defrost in the fridge or at room temperature? Sealed or let in the open to dry?
Sorry too many questions, hope you will be patient with me

Is he toasting it? Either way should probably be OK if you take it out in the morning and then eat at lunch, breads defrost really quite quickly.
too many comps..not enough time!0 -
I bought Costco bagels once before and froze them. They got freezer burn, or whatever it's called, and they tasted odd when eating them untoasted. I defrosted using the "take out the night before" method, so maybe that's not the way to do it!0

Ohhh freezer burn? Not too happy at the idea of the bagel tasting odd... to think that I was so happy after today's Cosco trip... perhpas I should have waited before putting the bagels n the freezer ....0 -
I buy and freeze them all the time. They always come out fine. I just take them out and leave them out in a bag. I bag my bagels and bread up into portions before i freeze it. To prevent freezer burn I always use cood quality freezer bags from Lakeland and secure the bags with tie. I have never had any problems only when I used value bags from T's. I particularly like the Sesame Seed ones!!!! Costco also do yummy croissants that freeze well.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0
