Tile panels (synthetic) - any good?
Hi all, I'm saving up for a new kitchen but it'll take a good couple of years until the funds are in place to buy one. In the meantime I would really like to do a cheap and cheerful kitchen makeover, as I don't think I can stand one more month of peach walls and twee multi-coloured tiles :o I looked at tile paint first,…

water leaking into a concrete garage at the bottom
Just had a new concrete garage put up. I have noticed at the back of the garage that it has been leaking in with all the rain we have been having.. We already have a filet done by the garage manufacturer. Called them up about it on Tuesday and it seems that after the sale there is NO service...still waiting for their call…

Dishwasher Problem
Hi, my dishwasher has stopped drying the items at the end of a cycle. It's a Whirlpool ADG 7540, circa 8 years old. Anyone shed some light on how serious an issue this might be or if there is an easy fix. Should i pay to get someone out to look at it? Thank You Patrick

how to fix water seeping through to dowstairs flat!!!
Flat downstairs have told me that water is seeping through to their bathroom ceiling. I had a look under my lino and noticed it's all wet as well as floorboards under bath soaked. I think this is because the floor gets wet from my long showers :o and the water must be slowly dripping through. I want to tile the bathroom…

Kitchen worktop options for Belfast sink
We are fitting a Belfast sink in a utility area with a run of a couple of kitchen cabinets - just over 1.4m long all in. We need to put a worktop over the top of the whole lot, with an exposed cut out for the Belfast (which will seal to the underside). What are my options for the worktop? I obviosuly can't use laminate as…

Getting rid of rust?
I have some metal baskets or shelves in my bathroom that you attach to the tiled area around the bath with suction cups - for storing shower gel etc. The metal is going rusty and it doesn't look very nice! Any ideas how to clean them up and get rid of the rust? Thanks!

Pop-up sink plugs
I have one of those slightly annoying pop up plugs in my bathroom sink. The sink is not holding water - do I need to replace the rubber O'ring? or the whole plug bit? or shall I just throw the plug bit away & buy a plug on a chain?!! I'd like to get it sorted ...

Condensation in gas oven
Hi Folks, I wondered if any of you can offer some advice please? We have moved into a rented house a couple of weeks ago and I am a bit worried about the gas cooker. It is a very basic Jet brand oven and is not much cop tbh, but I have never used a gas oven before so though ok I'll get used to it. It was pretty manky when…

Is our heating system working properly (underfloor heating)?
Hi We have recently moved into our new home (4 months ago) which was a new build. The house has underfloor heating throughout and as we are in summer we have turned on "summer mode" which basically should turn off all heating unless the thermostats detect a temp below 8c. However, I am very dubious if the heating is set up…

uPVC window repair?
I have uPVC double glazed windows that were installed probably around 20 years ago by a company called Windowseal (based I think in Stoke-on-Trent but could be Cheshire). A while ago they came out to repair my front door, after it's 10 yr warranty had expired but now I can't find a trace of them when I search. One of my…

Second hand front doors
My front door needs replacing. I've had the replacement leaning against my study wall for 7 years. It's hardwood and needs two glazed panels to go in it. I have posted on here before about the costs of glazing it, buying furniture, having it hung etc.. versus getting a company in to fit a composite one. Unfortunately, I…

Help with Tenby Howdens??
I'm trying to get a final plan for a Howdens Tenby kitchen done tonight and am having problems. Just on the off chance some one can help: A corner wall unit. TBY5472. Is it 631mm wide? On my howdens design drawing I have on the wall the TBY5472 and a 450 wall unit TBY5416 and they are shown as stopping short of the 1000HL…

replacing laminate with carpet
I have an open plan lounge that has laminate flooring, I find laminate cold and a pain to keep looking nice. I would like to replace it with a carpet and wondered would I have to lift it first or could carpet be laid over the top? I am wondering what will happen with the scurtain(sp) boards as the laminate was laid and…

Bad Workmanship
Having our garden landscaped by a local company who seemed on the face it very good. Gave them an idea of what we wanted and hoped they would put that into action as they do it for a living. Aspects of the work are good and other parts discovered this evening are not. One part I was not happy with at the time, but was…

Hydrogen Peroxide on Hemlock Doors
Some of you may have seen my previous thread - trying to restore old hemlock doors & the panels looked YUK. Anyway, we have sanded & yacht varnished one of the doors & it does look ok actually. Would have preferred a matt finish, but couldn't make that work. However, door does still look dark, which is surprising as rest…

Potterton vs. Vaillant
I have been given a choice of a Potterton Gold 24 kw heat only boiler or a Vaillant Eco tec 428 28kw heat only boiler. Any one in the trade comment on quality, the Vaillant will cost a little extra but I'm not fussed if it's better?

alternatives to carpet in lounge/hallway?
I have a terrible lounge carpet that needs replacing. It's a top flat in a converted house, so noise is an issue for the neighbours. At present, it has a basic soundproofing chipboard laid throughout which works ok. It is not entirely soundproof (and we have noise that comes through walls) but no complaints. The carpet…
