Potterton vs. Vaillant

I have been given a choice of a Potterton Gold 24 kw heat only boiler or a Vaillant Eco tec 428 28kw heat only boiler.
Any one in the trade comment on quality, the Vaillant will cost a little extra but I'm not fussed if it's better?

Vaillant every time. If you could take the cover off both boilers and view them side by side I don't think you'd need to ask the question.....0

Potterton every time.
The Vaillant 400 series are a constant problem. Worst boiler Vaillant have made, except the 800 exclusive range.0 -
I normally agree totally with gas4you but we part company on this one...
PERSONALLY i've never had a problem with the Vaillants..... touch wood......
"Worse boiler Vaillant have made"...... Worse than Potterton?
An alternative to consider might be the Viessmann Vitodens 100-W 26kW. A superb heat only boiler.0 -
The 400 series is just a ecomax pro with a new control board and panel.
Comes with all the flow problems associated with the above. Worst constant fault is boiler sitting at s53.
Exclusives are not worth the extra, pumps are always problematic.
I have no problems with the 800 and 600 series though, just these two.
I would not normally recommend Potterton/Baxi/main either.0 -
stick with a vaillant or a worcester and you cant really go wrong.
ask any ch fitter.
there wont be many fitters with a potterton in their own home.Get some gorm.0 -
Given the OP's choice I would fit the Potterton every time in my own home.
But then I wouldn't limit myself to that choice.
I would look at the Worcester Ri series instead if he wants a cheap and cheerful good boiler.0
