Can anyone recommend a suitable power tool for...
Hi We're putting up a garden fence and we have some bush/tree stumps that we need to get out of the ground - or at very least stop them from growing. Thickest diameter is about 8 inches. The stumps are growing sideways out of my next door neighbours ground, which is raised up 18 inches higher than ours. We want to put the…

Building over a Sewer
We are planning an extension to the side and rear of our property but there is an underground sewer and inspection chamber on where we want to build. After speaking to Anglian Water it turns out we are able to enter into a build over agreement with them as long as it isnt more than 6 meters being built over. We plan to…

Rushing water noise driving us mad
Hi We have a rushing water sound coming from our rising main when the cold water tank in the loft is filling up. We have fitted a PRV (Pressure Reducing Valve) to the rising main near the stop !!!! and have fitted a high pressure float valve in the cold water tank, BUT we still get the noise whenever the tank fills. Has…

Extension over existing annexe costs
Hi! I currently live in a detached house which had an annexe/extension added in 1995/96 (we bought the house last year). It's a large extension and virtually doubles the footprint of the house. The problem is that it makes the upstairs of the house feel small in comparison to the downstairs, so we've been toying with the…

Why are glass upstands and splashbacks in a kitchen so expensive?
I'm getting quotes for these and they seem ludicrously expensive! I have two 3m lengths, about 40cm high I'm looking to cover and the cheapest quote so far is £1,800. For glass??? I live in Surrey, which admittedly has an effect and the glass is toughened, but I could probably get granite instead for that price. Crazy.

New flat roof and my consumer rights
I had a new flat roof completed on my garage 18 months ago, which has leaked several times since. The company involved have returned and patched up the leak twice in one particular area, but my neighbour says the work done was substandard (I was at work when it was done). I am having the garage converted into a bedroom in…

Hanging felt clouds from the ceiling
I've made some stuffed felt clouds to hang from the ceiling of my babys room. The idea is to use a very thin fishing line to hang them but I'm not sure how to attach them to the ceiling. I'm not keen on putting drawing pins etc in the ceiling but whatever I use does need to be secure as I wouldn't want them falling down.…

Please advise: panicking re builder
Hi On saturday we gave a builder a cheque for £1500, in part payment for a job that will cost £6k. We said that we were transferring money and that it may take a few days. So he said he wouldn't cash it for a few days. I've since found a newly posted review that is less than flattering about the standard of his work and…

Broken Typhoon Capsule Bin
Hello the cable which pulls open the lid in our bin has snapped and I've removed it without noting exactly how it threaded through. I'm ok up to the point just before the cable attaches to the lid. There's a pully type cog and I can't figure out how the cable should go around it. I've tried Google and Typhoon. Typhoon no…
