Hi All,
House renovation almost finished and decorating about to start. Unfortunately budget is now very limited, but i really want to get a decent quality carpet.
I'm going to but quality underlay, and i think i want an 80%/20% wool mix.
I have two dogs and grandkids so need something that doesn't show every mark. I'd like one in a base colour of stone/oatmeal with fleck of colour.
I've seen one i really like in a local carpet shop it's called
Abingdon Spice 8
But i don't really know whether it's good enough quality or not?
Can anybody offer any advice please.

Was a 40 a day smoker for 20 years.
Decided to give up, and haven't had a fag for 12 years.
Halfway through losing six stone.
Looking forward to early retirement.

If it's "Abingdon" as the manufacturer, that's unlikely to be an 80/20. Abingdon generally make polypropylene carpets and have one of the best stain guarantees (on their polyprop products) in the business (up to 7 year stain warranty - if they can't get the stain out, they'll replace the carpet)
I've got dogs and kids (not quite at the grandkid stage, yet....) and, to be frank, a wool carpet can be a serious pain if it gets stained - for the most part these are hessian backed and a wool carpet with a hessian backing acts very much like a sponge in the presence of liquid and if a stain reaches the backing, it will soak into the hessian. At least with the polyprop, or at least Abingdon's polyprop, it's "secondary backed" which, again is a man-made hessian-looking backing, but it doesn't stain.
In point of fact, the organisation I work for uses a particular Abingdon Product (very similar to the one I have described above - it's the top end of that particular range) on the floors of their retail outlets and generally this remains down for around 7 years - being public-facing, it is important that this remains in reasonable condition and does not stain or mark easily. That should give you an idea of the confidence they have in that manufacturer's product.
As I work within the industry, and used to sell these products, it would probably be frowned upon on this forum if I were to publicly post specific recommendations and I would not wish to inflame the mods by doing so. You will, however, definitely find the type of colour (with fleck) you are looking for within one of the three ranges that are available within that retail outlet - look for the word "Heathers" in the name of the colour.
In terms of underlay, I would suggest that mid-range would be just as good - big savings can be made by looking online at something rubber-waffle around the 9-11mm thickness or PU foam at between 11 and 15mm thickness. The only place I would recommend upgrading the underlay is the very high-traffic areas - stairs, lower hall, through-lounges, that type of area. For the rest, a sensible mid-range underlay will be much more than adequate in terms of both life and feel, and would make useful savings from the budget.0
