Hi
We're putting up a garden fence and we have some bush/tree stumps that we need to get out of the ground - or at very least stop them from growing.
Thickest diameter is about 8 inches. The stumps are growing sideways out of my next door neighbours ground, which is raised up 18 inches higher than ours. We want to put the fence up, but have to stop these bushes/trees pushing into the panels.
If we can't get them out properly, we want to cut into the stumps and add a poison - do you think this would work? Any idea of what power tool we should hire for this job?
Many thanks
Terri

No, lol. They are growing sideways out of the ground, beneath the existing fence. They are probaby about 12 inches below the neighbours ground (underneath grass), but growing sideways into my garden. Looks rather odd and I know it sounds odd too!
The current fence is mounted on the boundary 18 inches higher than my ground level. And the bushes are growing between my ground but underneath the fence. They don't show any evidence of growth on neighbours side only mine.
New fence will be mounted on my garden level, so it's important to get this stuff out so it doesn't continue to grow and push over the new panels.0 -
in that case it is down to your neighbour to remove them, but speak to them and suggest that you both pay for their proffesional removal by either mini digger or stump cutter/grinder, the latter can be very akward to use and very dangerous so I dont know if you can hire them privatelyI

Deep root killer. It works a treat. I used it to kill a large clump of bay tree roots. Absolutely no regrowth. You drill holes and pour the crystals in, very easy.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
If the roots (which is what I think you mean) are causing you a nuisance then you are permitted to cut them back to the boundary and offer the arisings to your neighbour as they are their property. If they decline them it is up to you to dispose of them. However, if you destabilse the tree then you should be aware that you will be liable for resultant costs. You are NOT entitled to poison the tree / shrub because you will be damaging someone elses property.
At the very least you should talk to your neighbour who may not even be aware of the problem and reach an amicable solution that satisfies you both.

Sounds the right answer to me, cut them back as far as possible first though. You clearly didn't read my post and despite your entreatment to the contrary poisoning your neighbours vegetation is not allowed.
