Alternative Accommodation - is safety relevant?
My elderly mother is going through a home insurance claim after an escape of water. I have been searching for short term lets myself (several EAs have said she would not pass the affordability checks) and the insurer is presenting properties that are not like for like and in objectively dangerous areas in London or too far…

Total Write Off - valuation will not buy comparable car
We were recently driving along a main road when a car pulled straight out from a side road into the side of our car. Our car has been declared a total loss. The initial valuation was about £3000 lower than what it would cost to replace with a comparable vehicle. We asked the valuers to pass the case back to our insurance…

Car insurance renewal - Too early to discuss?
Good morning, My car insurance is due for renewal with Admiral on 05/06/24. Am aware prices have increased, so wanted to get quotes early to make as much of a saving as possible. Already got a few quotes via Moneysupermarket. I called Admiral this morning to discuss, however they say it's "too early," and that my renewal…

Car Insurance
I am an 85 year old who is taking a proficiency course and test with the Institute of Advanced Motoring. I already consider myself to be a safe driver, but there is always room for improvement. Does the IAM certificate make much of a difference to the cost of insurance ? I would appreciate any advice.

One Call Insurance quagmire
We were rear-ended on the motorway the other night. Thought we were well insured. However, calling One Call Insurance has proven a nightmare. Firstly, we were passed straight through to One Call Claims, the claim handling company linked with One Call. Read some negative reviews about them so opted not to go with One Call…

ONE CLICK - LOSS NOTIFICATION
I recently purchased a buildings policy from One Click/One call. When filling in the details I confirmed we have not made any claims previously on a buildings policy. 16 days later £75 was taken from my account and the monthly payments doubled on the online payment schedule. I contacted them to find out why and was told I…

Sunlife insurance of Canada
Has anyone else had issues with this company? I have various policies with them and due to health issues have had to make a couple of claims lately.. I made a complaint as they missed a payment to me and the complaint every month was simply extended to the next and so on for a year. Their excuse was due to a new system in…

Cooperative home/building insurance quote really high
I've just had a renewal quote from the cooperative for our home and building insurance which last year was little over £188. There have been no changes, no claims or issues, and I know that these costs are going up through one thing and another. But this year's quote is for £1,050! Almost five times the original cost which…

Claiming directly through my insurance?
I had a little mishap with a 2009 Vauxhall Corsa, which got scratched up. According to a car valuation website, it's worth about £1200. My own car is a Benz . Since the insurance excess is high, I decided to fix it myself, opting for a off-market repair. At first, the other party didn't want to involve insurance since it…

1st Central Insurance. Hard credit search
I took out a car policy with them at the end of March. It was a cheap policy but I’m in the habit of paying monthly for my other car policies so I chose that option and agreed to a soft credit search in the process. They carried out a hard search though. When I complained they told me “we’ve asked the policy department and…

Insuring a Home Battery against Theft
I am soon to have a home battery system installed. The installer has advised that new regulations 'recommend' the battery is installed on an exterior wall. The exterior wall in case is on my property, but there is no gate between the public footpath and the wall. I am concerned that it could be possible for someone to…

Structural movement tenement
Is structural movement the same as subsidence? If it is, how difficult would it be to get building insurance? Property home report says - historical structural movement, steel ties, part of wall appears to have been rebuilt. Chances of further movement remote. Structural repairs not required. All tenement flats in Glasgow…

Mobile phone insurance
I bought a mobile phone from a refurbished site, one that is very well-known. I also purchased insurance. I dropped my phone accidentally and the screen cracked. I put in for the repair but was told by the insurance arm of the company that they couldn’t find the policy. It turns out that although I had paid for it, the…

Council leasehold buildings insurance help
Hi, I am looking for some advice to see if I need to pursue this matter. We are leaseholders of a 2 bed flat. Our freeholders are Bournemouth Council. Our buildings insurance is arranged by the council, and we pay the premium, so we have no say or input in the arrangements. Previously, the premium had been under £150 for…

House insurance - 12 week holiday
Anyone have any good options for insuring house for a 12 week holiday period? Luckily my current policy runs out around 2 weeks into the holiday so it will cover me for that (think up to 6 weeks). Ideally after that I'd find an insurer who allows long periods of un-occupation to cover the remaining 10 weeks. Alternatively…

My life insurance policy DD is paid from my wife’s bank account.
Many years ago when I had debt problems to make sure the payment for my life insurance was paid, we set it up through my partners’s bank account. The insurance company didn’t object, but now I’m thinking would there be a problem for my partner if anything happened to me? It isn’t a big policy, just over thinking, they are…
