UK gilt calculations
I am calculating the redemption rate annually for the gilt TG31 - 31/07/31 coupon 0.25%. Yield Gimp website gives a redemption of 4.20%. Current price is £76.96. My calculation is: 100 (par value) -76.96 = 23.04 23.04\6.75 (year to maturity) =3.41 3.41 + 0.35 coupons= 3.76% So approximately 0.36% difference. Where does…

Halifax Sharedealing - Good? Easy? Cheap? - ETA, But Lloyds better? 😉
Morning all, DH is currently with Fidelity, and paying monthly fees of ~£32 on his S&S ISA. After a bad experience trying to switch to iWeb, he appears to have been "banned" from there, as he is unable to reset his log-in (so lets park iWeb for a moment - long story) Who's the next best to switch to? It will be a switch…

Account for child/minor vs. Bare trust for child/minor
If grand parents want to gift some money to a grandchild who is younger than 18 years, I understand this can be done by opening an account for the child with trustees appointed or a bare trust be set up. Is there a difference between the two or is a child account automatically a bare trust, given that trustees need to be…

Best child £50k investment?
I have been left £50k (tax all sorted by solicitor already so that's the final amount) which I want to invest for my young, only child. They have an ISA and I'm not keen to add more to that as I'm not 100% comfortable with them having such a huge amount at their disposal at 18. I considered a buy to let property, but the…

When to sell investments
I need to sell some investments in the next few months. From an ISA, so no tax implications. I'm wondering if there are generally accepted views on when to sell. Obviously the market can move up or down, and I'm not asking for advice on that. The kind of answer I'm looking for is on the lines of "If you must sell in…

New to investing - should I do both ETF and bonds?
I'm new to investing, and looking to start my journey with index trackers (still working out ideal ratio of S+P, FTSE100 / 250, Whole World etc.). But, I recently looked into Bond Funds a little more, and it seems that it might be an ideal time to consider these. Apparently, bonds perform best after an interest rate peak,…

Advice on LISA and other savings
Hello all, I'm looking for some advice on what to do with my savings, mainly my LISA. I'm 34 and opened it following some inheritance I received a few years back. I have 10k sitting in it. I opened it to take advantage of the 1k bonus and with the expectation of buying a house within the next 10 years. At the moment I'm…

Suggestions for Short Term Investment
Hi, have never really been in the market for this sort of advice before (as never have any spare funds!) but I have sold my house and don’t have a clue where to deposit the £130,000 proceeds until I buy a new house in the New Year. Is there a short term best solution to this that may bring me a little interest, but that…

Tax on interest savings - I haven't had a letter from HMRC
I am payed via PAYE and will need to pay a little bit of tax on interest savings for the 2023/24 tax year. I was under the impression that I would get a letter from HMRC with the amount owed and a taxcode change, but I haven't received anything. I need to fill in a self assessment for some freelance work anyway, so should…

Is there a way to invest in shares using your children's personal allowance for dividend income? On track to exceed my PSA - should I move my money?
Had a flurry of regular savers and fixed accounts maturing over the past few months. I have kept rough record of these and think I may exceed the £1000 PSA limit, but not much. Maybe £80 or so. I have two more accounts that are accumulating interest, one of these is a fixed deposit so nothing I can’t do about it. The other…
