Script DIvidend and tax treatment
Hello All, I own some share sin a company, not UK based, which issued some shares as a dividend. This "dividend" was paid as shares, and you had the choice of either keeping thiese share rights, or selling them to get the dividend. I chose to keep the share rights, so I got a few shares extra added to my current position…

What Lessons Learned?
We are now two weeks into the latest bout of markets upheaval and doubtless some are fretting. We recently had a lengthy discussion about the merits of selling USA and buying Asia/EM plus separate discussions about derisking portfolio's because of a potentially overvalued Tech Sector. Within the context of those topics,…

HMRC Attitude Towards Taxing of Fixed Term Savings Accounts
My wife and I were under the impression that if one was to opt for a fixed term savings account where you opt to have interest paid at maturity then interest earned would from this account only be considered as income in the tax year when maturity occurs. We understand that savings providers have a duty to report to HMRC…

Edge Saver Problems?
##resolved## A bit of a strange one, I’ve tried to transfer out a bit of cash this morning from my edge saver account and the app doesn’t bring up the account as an option on the pay screen. Do other people have the same problem? I can see the account in my account list, and I can see the transactions. But then go to pay &…

YBS and withdrawal days
Hi Just mentioning in case anyone else thought the same as i had. When YBS mention withdrawal days I took it to mean it was just one withdrawal allowed on each withdrawal day for the particular account. However when in the branch the other day I was informed that in fact if you can make 2 or more withdrawals on the same…

General Discussion and Whimsical Banter
It was only a matter of time. Personally I've never minded the off-topic comments in the main threads to discuss top easy access and regular savings accounts, but I can see it's becoming a greater problem given that there just isn't a whole lot going on in the top end of the savings accounts market right now and possibly…

S+P 500 (Vanguard)
Hi there- Does anyone have any advice about the S+P 500 (Vanguard) 14.26 5yr AAR or have already signed up. It has been offered to me via my Chip account- I am a newbie to investing so don't know very much at all but would like to grow my money rather than it sitting in 1 or 2% interest bank accounts. Any advice or…

Many people seem impatient with investing
Is it just me or when it comes to investing people mot only illiterate but are also are very impatient? I keep my investing simple: global index fund and a bond index fund in a stocks and shares isa. I am still rather young so the majority percentage is made up of equities and a smaller percentage in bonds. I also have a…

What does renew account mean?
Hi I've made too many withdrawals on my Club Lloyds Advantage Saver account and the rate's gone down. Rather than open another one, transfer the money to the new account and then close the old account, can I just 'renew' it to get the standard rate back? Is renew the same as close and open? Thanks.

Introductory rate ISA vs long term rate
Hi, I need to put aside a few grand, and think an ISA is probably the best way. I am looking for interest rates of >4%. Would there be any reason not to go for some of the 1-year introductory deals of c.4.5%, and go for a product with a slightly lower variable long term rate of 4.3% (e.g. Hargreaves Lansdown)? Are there…

Tax and Personal Savings Allowance
I currently have a private pension of approx £12000 per year, plus savings in normal instant access accounts earning interest of approx £575 per year. My personal tax allowance has been reduced to £11880 from £12570 due to this untaxed interest. However I thought you could earn £1000 in savings interest on top of the…

Claiming Higher Rate Gift Aid Tax Relief on Charitable Donation - Basic Query
Sorry for the basic question, but I cannot find the correct answer and am going around in circles.. Lightyear investing platform - new lower fees
I don't think many people know about Lightyear, but they are an investing platform comparable to the likes of Trading 212 and Freetrade. They are relatively new, having launched in the UK in 2021 and are fully authorised and regulated by the FCA. They're also backed by Richard Branson of Virgin Group. Today I received an…

Can I transfer my Moneybox ISA to avoid penalty for more than 3 withdrawals
I just transferred my cash ISA to Moneybox (per the Moneysavingexpert most recent email) and I get 3 free withdrawals per 12 months. The interest rate is 4.58% dropping to 0.75% if you withdraw 4 or more times. I don't have any intention to withdraw except in some sort of emergency but I'm curious, if I needed a 4th, could…

Brewdog Shares
So never had it been cheaper of late to buy some shares. Resellers have these listed for £12 a share, brewdog last offered them for £25, and the last investor sale round sold them for £15. Given they are an unlisted company, it’s difficult to truly value the price of a share. You could take into consideration the online or…

HMRC details
Not sure if this is quite the place, however. I was recently asked to send in a self assessment form which I had not previously been asked to do. I rang HMRC, prepare for a 50min wait, they said that my interest earnings from my bank accounts had taken me over the £10k threshold. I asked for a list of the accounts from…

Natural yield vs. total return
Heading into retirement I tweaked my portfolio late last year so most of our income needs come from yield on savings, bond funds and equity funds. I recently watched a YouTube video by James Shack (aka the man in the kitchen) who said it makes no difference whether you go for natural yield or total return because, when an…

Premium bonds win
Hi all, My 5 month old son was fortunate enough to win a decent sum on the premium bonds recently and we'd like to use the winnings to invest for the longer term. Our plan is to split the winnings across our two sons and max out their junior isas each year (until we reach the sum of money won). My questions are about the…
