Market Carnage - strategy (buy/sell?)
25% of my retirement plan is in a DC pension and S&S ISA (ive other in a DB pension and property), plus an emergency fund. Looking at the carnage im beginning to wonder how long it could last, how deep the sell-off may go (my equitties could we be looking at a 25-50% decline over the next 1, 3, 6 months)? A. Anyone in a…

S&S Query
Hi All, I think like most people I am focused on the stock market at the moment and this is my first experience of real volatility. I have £17k (£20k before the decline) invested in Vanguard with the following fund, My investment is within an ISA wrapper. LifeStrategy® 100% Equity Fund - Accumulation I recognise that it's…

Notice Accounts
I can't see any dedicated thread for Notice Accounts, so here we go. My question for all knowledgeable people in this forum is whether anyone has any experience with Allica Bank, I currently have a Zopa smart saver account and, so far, can't fault them really, but Allica are offering 2% for 95 days notice compared to…

At what point to stop investing (new money)?
As I have a habit of having my questions misunderstood - I'm asking at what point to stop paying in (S&S ISA / SIPP for example), not at what point should you pull all your money out. My mother is unemployed due to disability and is approaching her mid 60s. She has some thousands in cash savings. She had no retirement plan…

Paying Income Tax on Savings Question
Due to an anomaly of my finances last tax year is the first (and will be the only) year I have been (just) over the £500 threshold for declaring interest on my savings in order to be taxed so I'm a newbie. I am a higher tax payer in theory as my salary is over the threshold but I don't actually pay anything at the higher…

Best Regular Saver feeder accounts
I'm trying to find the best interest paying Easy Access savings accounts that allow repeat (preferably automatic rather than manual) withdrawals to feed the dozen+ Regular Saver accounts I have. This information used to be easy to find through forum searches a year so ago, but I've drawn a blank recently. Have I just been…

Best S&P 500 Tracker?
A simple question.. Which is the best (ie simplest and cheapest) basic S&P Tracker Fund out there? There's such a plethora of choices! It doesn't have to be an ISA as my total annual income is well below the personal allowance anyway.

Taxed on Savings - newbie
hey all apologies if this is a frequent question. recently noticed my monthly wage was not same and noticed the tax code had changed… unsure why, so called HMRC. they said it is due to tax on hour savings. Firstly! I was shocked how they knew about my savings (50K) on another online saving account that i never declared……

Vanguard at the vanguard ?
Hello Folks I've noticed this fund manager on the whole gets better reviews than most. Why is this? Perhaps its consistently cheaper? Or are its managed funds consistently better than others? Or are its global or region specific funds better diversified and representative ? Or none of the above and its something else? And…

Is it smart to stop PAYE?
Normally people pay tax every month via PAYE however I heard that you can remove yourself from PAYE and do your own tax return at the end of the tax year which means you can earn interest on the tax. Is it this something people would consider smart? How common is this? Are there any problems with doing this?

Crystall ball required for rates.
Although this is more relevant to my next ISA choice of transfer, it applies to all savings. With the US tariff situation, is there ANY way of knowing if interest rates here may drop at a slower rate than previously thought? Normally I wouldn't be too picky but with ISAs it could be worth hundreds between a lower fixed…

Anyone buying stocks at the moment?
I've been buying every month for about 2 years and at one point I was 28% up, now I'm only 5% up which feels painful, but then I remember this is a long term thing and pound cost averaging wins long term. But with such a sharp selloff I decided to transfer 20% of my emergency fund to my stocks & shares ISA to buy some more…

Over Saving Interest maximum
Hello I've been saving for a house and just realised that I have gone over the £1000 tax free saving amount which I can earn before I pay tax on interest earned, on my savings. (I'm a standard rate tax payer) FYI I found this was happening when my national insurance number changed and a larger amount was charged for income…

AGMs - what do you do?
Now I’ve got accounts with a fair few building societies it’s the season of the year with emails and post giving me the opportunity to vote. I’ve voted a few times before - mainly because they were offering charity donation for voting papers completed or just because I felt obliged to. The reality is I would usually go…

Silver / Gold products on discount sale?
I've recently become interested in buying a small amount of gold / silver (not a lot, but thought it can't hurt to own a little). I noticed that some of the websites (eg. bullionbypost) have some products - normally commemorative coins / mints etc - on sale (eg 15% off), as well as selling "second hand" gold / silver (?) I…

Setting up discretionary trust - is my understanding correct?
My parents are looking to setup a trust to gift some money to grandkids. I understand the differences between bare vs discretionary trust. If the tax is not so punitive we would like to use discretionary given the control. Obviously we will speak to a specialist(s) on this. But from my understanding there is a way around…
