MOVING STOCKS & SHARES PROVIDER
Hello, I have had a SS ISA with H&L for many years, some shares with Carnival (used to do a few cruises) also Royal Mail (which I just see have been sold. Probably my fault because I rarely check my emails). I also invested £100 recently in iShares physical Gold (self managed) I am looking to put them all into one (I also…

Zopa Rainy Day Saver - interest received seems lower than advertised
Hello. I opened a Zopa account in January. My primary motivation in doing so was to allow to me to open the linked Rainy Day Saver, which advertises a market-leading 7.1% interest rate. I deposited the maximum £300 allowed on the day I opened the account. After a month, I received only £1.68 in interest. This seems lower…

Marriage Allowance and Starter Rate
I have applied for marriage allowance for the first time this year, as I retired from work a few months ago and have only two very small pensions. For this current tax year my work / pension income will be around £10,000. I do however have savings interest in excess of £1000 and have benefitted from the "starter rate" in…

AI “play” - active or passive?
A family member (whom I help with SIPP admin, etc) has asked me for my thoughts on an “AI” play. Although on a personal level, I’d probably prefer to stick with what I know, I do want to give whatever help I can. We’re definitely not talking about individual company shares here and so I’m thinking something like an ETF…

Reducing HMRC Payments on Account
A quick bit of background: Having filed my Self-Assessment Tax Return for TY24/25 last May, I am faced with a Self Assessment 'Payment Due' of approx £3000, of which £2000 is income tax for TY24/25 and the remaining £1000 being the first payment on account for TY25/26. A further £1000 'payment on account' is due by 31 Jul…

How to choose a savings account
In 3 months time I will be coming to the end of my DMP (Very proud to have paid off 34k of debt) As I have become used to paying nearly 700 a month to my DMP. I don't want to just blow this money each month once I have finished my DMP. I have never had a savings account really. I think I might like like to distribute my…

US Markets Risk
Morningstar articles about investing tend to be informative rather than fluff pieces, many are an excellent trove of information. Trading 212 funds - Updated with portfolio thoughts
I am considering transferring a (currently managed) S&S ISA to Trading 212 as they don’t seem to have any charges and I have a cash ISA with them, however I am struggling to find a list of ETFs they offer to decide if they are right for me. Does anyone have a link or some insight they can offer? I am primarily looking for…

Top slicing relief on Investment bond
Can anyone advise on the tax due on a £60k chargeable event gain from an international investment bond (tax not paid) that's been held for 22 full years. No other income in the tax year. I understood that starting rate for savings and personal savings allowance are recalculated based on the sliced gain so should still be…

Best way to maximise interest on £10k savings
Hi, I have £10,000 that I'm happy to lock away for 2 years but I don't know which type of account is the best way to do this. I am a higher rate tax payer so need to be careful not to go over the threshold of £500 interest. I know some pay interest annually and some pay on maturity so this is vital not to go over. I won't…

Euro Savings Account
Does anyone have any knowledge of €uro accounts that actually pay any interest, any as in more than 1%. I opened one sometime ago with Lloyds International the original interest being 2.65% it has since plummeted to 0.25% hardly worth it. Makes me wonder whether it might make more sense to transfer into £ pay whatever…
