GBP and USD cash interests on brokerage account - onshore or foreign in tax return?
I earned some interests from GBP and USD cash balance with 3 brokerage accounts (i.e., Interactive Investor, Interactive Brokers, and Schwab) and am confused whether they should be counted toward onshore or foreign interests in tax return. Interactive Investor - Since it's a UK company, the GBP makes sense to be onshore,…

Help to Buy ISA with Barclays Bank
Hi, I have the maximum of £12,000 saved with Barclays in a Help To Buy ISA, which I was saving into each month since 2019. I am supposed to get £3,000 bonus from the Government if and when I am able to try and buy a house which is not looking very likely any time soon. Is this still the case, or will that bonus will be…

Checking savings interest reported to HMRC
Is there a way of viewing the savings interest reported to HMRC. I logged into my tax account but can't find this information. I have received a letter quoting a total amount but no breakdown on how they arrived at this amount. Any suggestions how to view this information would be appreciated please.

Budget Dividend increase
Would this effect dividends paid on a fund held in an ISA/SIPP... Ie is the holder taxed, or would the fund be taxed before the dividends arrive in the isa...?

Zopa investments and general cautiousness
I wonder if I'm typical of what people like Martin have commented on lately - the general reluctance of Brits to invest instead of save. I had an email from Zopa today inviting me to open a beta investment account. I can't choose the S&S ISA option because I've maxed out this year's allowance, so I'd have to go with the…

Capitol Gains Tax - can't work out the 'gain'
I have shares in a company I used to work for and looking to sell them. My problem is that I don't have access to the info that would tell my how much I paid for them (over about a 10 year period), in order to work out what (or if) any gain was made on them, for CGT purposes. If I just sell them and do nothing, would HMRC…

Close Brothers 12 month bond coming to maturity
Anyone had a 12 month bond with Close Brother before? I have one that is maturing on 4 December this year, that is in 12 days' time but I haven't heard from them to notify me that the bond is maturing and giving me options on what to do with the proceeds. Should I have heard something by now?

Tax on savings interest
Hello all. I haven't been on here for a while and I'm sure this subject has been mulled over multiple times but I seem to be missing some trick. So far, I understood that the tax free amount you get (500vs1,000) depends on your TAXABLE income and not gross. But lately I was surprised when HMRC messaged me that I owe some…

Personal Savings Allowance not deducted from income on self assessment
Why has my self assessment not applied my personal savings allowance, which I believe should be £1,000 as a basic rate tax payer, to my tax calculation? All the savings interest I have declared has been added to my income, with 0% deduction applied to the amount. My total earnings are approximately £26,000, with…

Money market rate
My short-term Money market rate within interactive investor is showing as 4.51% but this is performance over the last year rather than what it is doing right now. If I check the 1 month total return, it is showing 0.35%, if I multiply this by 12 it gives me 4.2%. Then there are the buy and sell fees to take into account.…

Is Raisin safe ?
I recently cam into some money from an inheritance. For the first time in my life I'm needing to find safe places to put it. I see Raisin being put forward on MSE and I have spotted a few savings accounts that look tempting. My questions are more concerns as peppered throughout the forum I see threads discussing how very…

Capital gain tax for foreign currency on (non-tax-sheltered) brokerage account
Some of the brokerage account can hold foreign currencies directly but I wasn't sure how should the tax be treated if it's non-tax-sheltered. I want to hold some dollars to buy and sell securities, and I don't convert the dollar back to pounds in between different transactions, as I plan to continue to invest on dollar…

Cash Ladder
I have read as much as I can about savings accounts and I would like to know whether my plan for my 5 year

rest of my money will go into investment and that will be my next plan. I am expecting some income during the 5 year period so I can
be flexible with 1 – 2…
