Tax question regarding US traded shares.
I have a number of shares in a US company. The shares are held on my behalf by UBS in New York. Recently the share price has increased significantly and I would like to sell the shares to take advantage of the price increase. If I sell the shares and have all the proceeds sent to my UK bank account, I will have to pay…

Paper share certificates
I still get paper certificates from Aberdeen shares but I'd rather hold them electronically as royal mail is useless. Do I need to find every single certificate and post to Aberdeen before this can happen? I have an Equiniti account with them which shows my balance so not sure why I'm still getting paper certificates.

Tembo: HomeSaver account only available to Lifetime ISA holders who've opted out of bonus
MSE currently have the Tembo HomeSaver listed as one of the top easy access accounts. I tried to open one earlier and was given a warning message saying to open it I must first opt out of the Lifetime ISA bonus, as you can't be opted into for two bonuses at once. There isn't the option of opening a HomeSaver and opting out…

Selling Shares (Paper Certificate) One Time Only
I have small number of shares for which I hold a paper share certificate - ie they are not managed as part of a portfolio or held by a broker. They're worth a few hundred quid and I want to sell them and get the cash. I understand I've probably got to find a brokerage platform that supports certificated share dealing and…

NS&I: Premium Bonds - older than 1990s
Hello there I am the fortunate owner of £5 of Premium Bonds acquired within a year of my birthday circa 50 years ago! Woo hoo! I hear you cry: a whole £5. Well, yes, if adjusted for subsequent inflation (which painfully it is not) it would have been worth £33.89 in July 2025 according to the Bank of England's inflation…

Tax on savings interest
i thought if you have no income employment you could earn tax on savings interest plus starter rate. HMRC have applied a 20% tax on moderate savings interest a few thousand (well under last year's tax code). And reduced my tax code. No other income. Surely this isn't right? They won't change it and say it is based on…

Fair Fund Notice - Barclays Bank
I'm in the UK, had Barclays ordinary shares a while back but sold them all, only had £500 worth. Pretty sure I bought them before 2019 so this might mean nothing to me. But got a card through the post the other day that appears to be relating to a class account being done in America. It states "This is an important notice…

Vanguard S&P 500
Good morning, So I have delved into the S&P 500 a few weeks ago using some of my savings. I have decided to go for the accumulating option(VUAG). Where do II take fund trading fees from?
Little confused here. Or just blind. I have an II "Plus" subscription so it includes one free trade a month and additional fund trades should be £1.49 each. On Friday I placed 3x sell orders for funds in my ISA. All three have executed. What I'm not seeing is the fees being taken for the trades. If 1x sell order is covered…

Pay into my pension or cash ISA?
I've had a workplace pension for just under a year. I contribute 7% of my monthly pay, which is the most that my employer will match. But I can contribute more if i want to. I was looking at it today and it says that it has gone up by over 9% since I started it. I've also got a cash ISA that's earning 4.52%. I would…

Shawbrook Bank - how do they get away with it?
I had a 1 year ISA, maturing on 10th April 2026. In March they asked me what I wanted to do with the funds. As they didn't have any decent rates I informed them, with 30 days notice, that I would be transferring all of the funds out of the ISA on maturity. The ISA transfer was pending for 30 days. I would have thought a…

Genuine?
Returned home after some weeks away to find this (opened) in my mail. It was addressed to a sadly now deceased family member at an address he used to live at near me some years ago. It is now an air B&B so I can only assume given the delay from letter date, that the owners were up at some point recently and knew to put it…
