How to maximise my savings?
Hi folks I've been banking with HSBC for quite a few years now, but their interest rates aren't particularly great so it's time for a change. After weighing up my options on MSE I've initiated a transfer of my cash ISA to Vida, and have already moved my easy access savings (about £32K) to Chase. I was just wondering if…

SUN LIFE OVER 50 PLAN. A WORD OF WARNING
In November 2006 my father opened this plan with SunLife. He agreed to pay them £22 per month and was guaranteed a lump sum payment of £2,040 upon his death. My dad continued to make these monthly payments right up to the day he died at the grand old age of 90 in January this year, in fact Sunlife took a payement out in…

Advice for ISA for wife
Hi, my wife is thoroughly pee'd off with Aviva since switching her pension to them, they seem spectacularly unable to take her direct debits every month. So she's decided just to leave that pension as it is with no further contributions and set something else up instead. She's 56 and this will go towards retirement, but…

Selling Australian shares
Hi folks, my mother has recently (after what seems like it took forever to sort!) had a number of shares in Commonwealth Bank of Australia transferred into her name, that used to belong to my deceased father. The shares are managed by Link Market Services, but it appears as though it won't let us sell the shares via their…

Gilt coupon income - report to HMRC without SA?
Quick question, apologies if this has been asked before. I currently don't perform self-assessment, for savings accounts just relying on the banks to report interest to HMRC for tax collected when above the PSA (which I will exceed). They've been doing this accurately and I do have a personal tax account. If I held a…

Gilts held offshore and CGT
A good friend of mine with a French brokerage account (but resident and tax-resident in the UK only) wants to buy gilts and keep them in her offshore account.
