Recommendations where to invest some of my inheritance
Hi all. I have recently inherited a sum of money after my Mum passed away. I really don't want to leave it sitting in a standard bank account where it will not do anything so I wondered whether anyone had any advice on where to place the money, or parts of it, to gain the best interest or investment return? Thanks in…

Would this strategy of 100% equities work?
What if I had 100% equities (in index funds) and a cash buffer to pull from for the average bear market of approx. 22 months of living expenses. Plus, say, 22 x £1,000 to buy the dip?I think I'm getting close to retirement and I am mostly I equities with hardly any bonds which I'm told is ill-advised.

Vanquis savings matured today but only received the interest!
Starting to worry a bit but perhaps I am just being impatient. Husband's Vanquis fixed rate savings account matured today. The interest appeared in our current account at about 9am this morning but the deposit (£8K) didn't, they just paid the interest. He tried logging into his account but on the main screen under Account…

Maximum to hold in a single fund?
I tend to be a bit nervous about having 'too much' in one fund and would prefer to split an investment between similar funds to spread the (what I perceive to be) risk over different fund providers. Is there a rule of thumb for this ie a maximum that it's recommended to hold in one fund? Please be kind - I'm super cautious…

Vanguard Equity Income or Royal London Sterling Extra Yield Bond?
I'm setting up an income portfolio and was about to buy Vanguard Equity Income, then remembered that RL Sterling Extra Yield Bond has historically performed similarly. They are of course very differently invested but follow similar trajectories, though with the bond fund less volatile. Which would you invest in, and why?

Kuflink P2P - changing Ts & Cs
Anyone else here receive their new terms & conditions? Key points include them NOT using their own capital to cover any losses, & also something about them not taking on the first 5% of loans 🧐 Sounded to me like nothing positive for an investor, & as a consequence, we will be withdrawing our funds (not a significant sum,…

Small Investments into Shares/ETFs
Hello there, I’m considering starting to invest in shares, specifically ETFs. Since I work for an investment bank, I’m limited to using certain brokers. After reviewing the proposed list, I chose Interactive Brokers as they offer the lowest fees. I opened two accounts with them: a general account and an ISA. For tax…

Trading 212 Cash ISA - Borderline discriminatory???
Hi All, First posting newbie here. Just wanted to convey my disappointment with the Trading 212 service. Government Bonds - Gilts
I understand that investments and possible gains on government bonds-gilts are CGT free. Does this apply to; 1 - Buy a dated 2035 bond at say 80 per unit in 2005 - matures expiry in 2035 paying 100 per unit - profit 20 per unit CGT free. 2 - Buy a dated 2035 bond at say 80 per unit in 2005 - sell at 110 per unit in 2015 -…

Saving/investing income - in a lucky position with no idea where to start
Hi all. I'm in the very fortunate position of being mortgage
free in my 30s. I own a house that myself and my partner live in (unmarried at
the moment, this is likely to change at some point when we get ourselves
organised). We earn a decent amount a year (approx £100k pre-tax) and now that
the mortgage is paid off we…

ETF and OEIC gilt variance
IGLT opened today over 2% down and drifted slightly lower, ending 2.34% down. My Fidelity gilt index fund, valued at midday, was up 0.13%. How does that happen, given they measure a similar index?

Teenager savings/investment
My 17 year old son will receive somewhere in the region of £35-40k from a compensation claim. He may well be 18 before he actually gets the money but either way I am looking for advice because it’s a rather large sum. I’ve never had enough money to look into investment and am a bit risk averse anyway, so guess I’m asking…

ISA advice
Hi, I have 10k in savings and wish to put it in an ISA however I am in the process of buying a new house and although I may not need the money out again there is a chance. So I don't think an ISA that is fixed for 1 year is suitable. What is the best way to handle this 10k that I may or may not need access to before the…

Systemic incompetence - Aegon
We're having a torrid time trying to cash in Aegon investments into an annuity. The process has been ongoing since October, with an IFA charged to handle the transaction. Multiple documents submitted, multiple calls with 40 minute pickup times, multiple "confirmations" that Aegon has received all the necessary paperwork…
