Silicon coated paper vs greaseproof paper
I have been finding it difficult lately to get hold of good old-fashioned greaseproof paper. The supermarkets all seem to be full of this new silicon coated baking paper that is twice the price for a fraction of the length. Does anyone have any experience with this ? Does it have benefits that are worth the extra cost ? I…

OS Room Fragrance
Hi all, This kind of stuff has prob been around before but thought I'd put it in just in case. I picked lots of herbs from my pots today and put them in a vase in the living room. It smells lovely and looks pretty as a few of them are flowering at the mo. Saves on flowers and air freshener.

Separating Sauce
A little while ago I bought a ready meal from Waitrose (Don't shout at me it was £2 reduced from £7.99  ) It was belly pork slow roasted in cream and calvados and it was yum. But as £7.99 is out of the question I thought I would have a go at making it and it has been bubbling away all night in the slow cooker. It…

Hellllpppp!
Hi all. I am sure you have had loads of 'I'm a TERRIBLE cook!!' threads, and yes, I don't think I am too blessed in the kitchen. My main problem is, when we have been to Tesco, I can make 'meals' made up of 1 part 'meat' (like a chicken kiev, pie etc), 1 part veg (usually frozen, I shamefully admit to buying bags of fresh…

Help! Label says do not freeze
Afternoon OS'ers  I'm hoping you can help me. I bought a few yellow stickered things from the supermarket yesterday and didn't look at the packaging carefully - 2 x 175g prawns and 2 mini WW quiches, I thought I'd be able to freeze them no probs as the dates are quite short 27 & 30 May. The packaging on the prawns…

How much royal icing do I need to make to cover a 14" cake (4.5" high)? Anyone got any good recipes/techniques for "fool proof" royal icing? What's the minimum length of time for it to set. Asking a lot I know, but my previous experiences of royal icing have not been easy. Of course may be someone has an alternative icing…
