Provisions fund / service charge
I am a housing association tenant with an assured tenancy. I have lived in my house for 29 years and on receipt of my new rent charges notice for this year I noticed there was a service charge added to my notice as well for the first time ever. It says it is for a provisions fund. When I called to ask for my information…

We have a small bathroom around 2.5m x 1.6m and we are looking for it to be completely ripped out and done again, including moving piping work. We got a quote from two general builders and they were charging just over £6,000 for labour. Another person is a "bathroom fitter". He spent the most time measuring things up…

House insurance on barn conversions
Why do insurance companies base their quote for barn conversions on the date of the original barn construction, and not the converted building. The rebuild costs on a converted barn would be far greater than an agricultural barn, or am I missing something?

Is this the going rate for patio works?
Hi - I’ve been quoted the below for works in our garden. The quote feels on the expensive side, however I have also seen comments in some historic threads about the prices of materials spiralling etc, so I’m unsure how this quote compares and whether it is on the expensive side, or whether I was being naive/unrealistic to…

Cost of fitting a new condensing boiler
Hi, I've had a quote of £2,850 from a local gas engineer to fit a new Worcester condensing boiler. However, he has asked for £2,000 upfront in cash-does this seem like a reasonable quote and should he be asking for more than 50% of the total for material costs upfront?
