Quote for downstairs loo refit

Just had this quote for a small downstairs toilet refit. Really like the look of the company, reviews check out OK, guy came round and was very personable but seems I'm totally clueless about the cost of things these days. My guestimate was around £3K tops. Space is 1.6m x 0.8m and the quote covers full wall and floor tiling. Fair price or should I be shopping around? If this is the going rate I don't want to be getting more quotes really.

Most of the hardware, such as tiles (unless special design) are very cheap to buy - so you are mostly paying for labour
So to tile 10 sq m of wall would be a good half of the overall time / cost
hence this does appear to be a good price for a fairly labour intensive job
I recently paid £4000 to get floor to ceiling full length plastic panels fitted in my 4.5 sq metres wetroom
yours is 1/4 of this size !

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

i must be out of touch aswell as i would have thought £1k max for downstairs loo and sink.

Ive just been walking around B&Q as im thinking of refitting my ensuite and back-of-a-fag-pack cost is £800 for materials.
    Shower Tray £140
    Shower Door £305
    Shower £95
    Tiles £120
    Toilet £80
    Sink £60

Extras would be things like grout, taps, piping etc.....

Then im thinking 4 days to rip out the old stuff and fit the new which will cost me £1,500  (basically £400 day rate).

    Skip hire £300

My thinking is my ensuite should cost me £3k all finished.

IMHO your loo must be much much less then £5k (i know im tight with money, but i wouldn't be paying £5k)

On the positive, your quote is clear and detailed

I just don't have the skills to do this myself and my reasoning is that despite freshening this space up over the past 25 years it's the original suite that Barratts fit back in the day so it's the cheapest of the cheap. I'm ready to spend a bit more for something that's potentially going to last for another 25 years and look much nicer instead of me giving it a go and forever being unhappy with the results. If I spend the £5K they quote and it's a perfect job, that's cost £200 per year which makes it seem palatable. I'm trying to justify giving them the go ahead because i'm a VERY tight northerner ;-) Just wanted to put the feelers out to see what this board thought.

I totally understand your thinking when you say "£200 per year which makes it palatable"
Personally i would get a few more quotes (it just feels a little too expensive IMHO).
Also my prices listed above are for basic / budget materials and nothing fancy.

The components are full retail price from the manufacturers' catalogues.  Look online for the Roca one and you'll see what I mean. You can get the same items cheaper - a lot cheaper - from the online direct suppliers.  Your fitter will get 25% or more off these catalogue prices.  Also these wall hung toilets are expensive; a concealed floor mounted one is a lot less; the standard porcelain type even less still.

The fitting price (IMO) is slightly high (depending on location) but not out of the ballpark. Add on their discount and it's definitely heading for the boundary...

Interesting - we are looking at re-doing our cloakroom, which is a very similar size to OPs.  Won't be fully tiled, and toilet (rimless, but not wall hung) and basin will be going in the same places as the old, so won't need to move the pipes to account for a new layout. Want fitted units round the toilet and sink, though, and the 30 year old bog standard radiator replacing with a heated towel rail.

When we first discussed this, Mr S thought it would be in the region of £2K.  I immediately doubled that to £4K.  I think my guesstimate will be nearer - will report back in due course.
