Saved on New TV
Mum and I went shopping for a new TV the other day, and they said they didn't have any stands in stock apart from the display one, which they wanted £50 for (the price of a non display stand!). So I jumped in and said do we get a discount for the display stand? No was the reply, so we asked them to check all their other…

Thanks so much Martin!!
Where to start?! I've been logging onto your site for over a year now after a friend recommended it. In the past week, however, it's been my first port of call to research all sorts of financial questions, and has saved me a fortune in my monthly outgoings. :A After a complicated five-year, now resolved, divorce, I find…

Saved on car insurance
Heard Martin on Radio2 last Friday, so logged onto the site, and glad I did as it saved me £46 on my car insurance. I recently changed my cars from an MG Metro to a Metro Sport, both having exactly the same engine specs, just the MG had the refineries. My insurance ends on 17th November so I already had a quote for the MG,…

Saved a fortune on house insurance
Well how about this for a result. Having followed the tips on this board I decided to see if I could get my house insurance cheaper. I was paying £1000 a year for my buildings and contents. I managed to find another insurer that offered me £330 a year for the same policy with less of an excess. I went back to my original…

car recovery
Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place but did quickly scan and cannot see a mention anywhere else here. When I was renewing car insurance last year, I declined their breakdown at over £60 and decided to use Auto aid as Martin had written a very positive account on this site. So far this year I have had 2 reasons…

not earned a lot but learned a lot
Since being on MSE I thought apart from saving money on utilities and changing mortgage etc, that I'd not saved all I could. But I've just realised I've saved lots and lots but because it's here and there I haven't really counted it It struck home recently when arrangements had to be made for the christening of my newest…

Simple way to save money on supermarket shopping - how stupid am I!
My DD has just gone off to university so I thought I'd try to save on my grocery bill each week. So I've used the smaller trolley the past 2 weeks. Simple, more than halved my bill. I'm not tempted to fill up the trolley with stuff I don't really need. I guess it must be psychological, if you have the bigger trolley you…

Daftest thing you've haggled for?
Whats the daftest thing you've tried to haggle for, whether successful or not? I went to Blackpool for a day/night out drinking recently, and we got back to my town later on and went for some more beers. Anyway I realised I'd spent quite a bit all day, and when in the kebab shop on the way home tried to haggle the guy to…

Goodbye Barclaycard!
Have closed the account and framed the £0 statement. Have saved enough in a switch account for an emergency, it was a lovely feeling shredding the card! No temptation there now! One more card to clear next month and I'm set!!

I am so proud of MrJudi !!!!!
Yesterday we bought a new car. He got the garage to price match a price on a website and he got nearly £2,000 more for our car than Parkers valuation said it was worth. We have saved £3,500. I wonder if he reads the site on the sly?

Having just joined (must be a newbie) and read how to save money, I have finally got off my backside and done some research. I have changed my household/buildings insurance and saved £100 and I am now working on my car insurance and credit card balance transfer. As I said, I have only just begun my new life trying to save…

Big saving on phone calls
I installed voipbuster after reading about it on here. I live in Spain and estimate a saving of minimum £30 a month because all my calls to the UK and within Spain are now free! Quality is pretty good, the odd dropped word but nothing worse. I had tried Skype but they charge for calls to landlines which did add up , and…
