well it started about a year ago, i was about £1000 in debt with no savings so i decided each week to put £25 into a savings account and when it had built up enough i would transfer the money to my current account to clear my overdraft, however when i had enough i decided to carry on saving and not transfer it, as time has past i have increased my weekly savings to 85 a week but at present i have lowered it to 50. As for my overdraft i have managed to clear it through carefully watching what i spend each week!

Well done Tayus - way to go!! I think the secret of your success is getting into the savings habit. I have saved all my life, right from getting my first pocket money many moons ago!) A few years ago I thought I was doing really well by saving £100 a month, now I'm saving £600 and its addictive - just as spending can become addictive. Save as little or as much as you can happily afford and let it just mount up as you have done. :-)
if i had known then what i know now

  • Since joining this site I was encouraged by what I read, to claim for endowment misselling. We started the endowment a few months BEFORE the regulations came into foece in 1988. Last week we received nearly £2000 from Bradford and Bingley!!
We have just haggled with SKY and got 20% off our monthly subscription for a year saving £120. Our phone bills and broadband are reduced also because of advice followed on this site.
    It's wonderful. Thank you Martin
