PIP and NI
I've Parkinson's and started receiving PIP about 3 years ago. My wife receives CA.. Neither of us work. I receive 2 work pensions. Are my wife and I required to pay NI? Does our receipt of PIP and CA filter down to NI? Or should we have informed NI?

TV Licence for the Old and Disabled
I was recently shocked to learn that my Dad is paying for his TV licence, as he is 82 years old and registered disabled. Apparently because he is on disability benefits rather than pension credit he doesn't qualify for a free licence, this can't be right surely?

Selling as-new (behind the ear) hearing aids
Just wondering if there is a market for nearly new (behind the ear) hearing aids out there, and if so, where the best place is to sell them (and if there are any restrictions) My Mum bought new 2 Phonak behind the ear hearing aids for over £3k in October 2021, and she passed away unexpectedly in January 2022, so they have…

Can we ask for a disabled space on a private road under the Equality Act?
Hi all I have a couple of diagnoses that lead me to receiving PIP, and I have a blue badge. My partner lives on a private road with a good number of houses and flats. Most have some kind of drive; the remaining few have a designated parking space, which is the case for my partner. There are also a couple of spaces of free…

Loathe being on benefits but can't work
Hi I've been on disability benefits for years and hate it because I live in fear every day incase they stop, and because of my health problems find it almost impossible to get a job that fits around my health problems. To cut a long story short, how can i survive without being on benefits and without working? Playing…

Friend's PIP cancelled - writing a letter on their behalf?
In an awkward position here. Someone I know has had their PIP cancelled, they were interviewed and basically got the letter back saying the decision cannot be challenged or whatever. Although I feel badly for them it's really not any of my business. They're asking me to write a letter of some sort to the DWP/PIP people and…

Where to look for advise and help
I'm not sure if this is the right choice for this post but I hope it can be moved if need be. I have a complicated life situation and listing every detail here would make for a very long read so Im really looking for where to start. Friday my already disabled wife had a stroke. It currently looks like she will be more…

Just paid car tax in full. Found out we can get 50% off. (PIP)
How would we go about this? I know about sending the cheque etc. Just wondering if they can refund half (or as appropriate) of it instead? Don't have a cheque book (bank doesn't offer them) and no idea what a payable order is, apparently its for government banking. (what?)

Industrial Injuries claim
My cousin has recently been involved in an industrial injury and I am trying to help him with his industrial injury claim. He was, before his accident a HGV driver and, though he says he is self-employed, he worked for only one company and had a contract of employment and his salary was paid through the company's umbrella…

50% car tax disability reduction
Just realised this morning that I’ve been overpaying car tax since 2018 and I’m cross. If you get complete exemption from car tax because of claiming higher rate mobility on PIP, DVLA change your V5C. if however, you get standard mobility on PIP, you are expected to claim by post every year. I sent them the first evidence…

Feminine chronic medical issues - Considered disability?
Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me determine if feminine issues such as Endometriosis/Dysmenorrhoea/Fibroids/PCOS are not considered long term illness and therefore qualify as a disability? I can't work full time as I'm always in pain and thinking of going to part time but I'm really worried about what my income will…

Suggestions for activities / crafts for someone severely sight restricted
Hi, my mother has in past 2-3 years become blind or "severely sight restricted" as they call it now due to macular degeneration. She has also lost quite a bit of mobility due to other issues. She listens to hundreds of audiobooks via our library but she gets really bored as she can do so little now. She wants something…

Prepaid Card for carers to use
I’m trying to get a prepaid money card for my disabled daughter, for her support workers to use when they are out in the community. I am her Deputy for Finance. My daughter (aged 24) has profound learning disabilities, and to apply for a card she needs to upload a video of her saying something to verify her identity. Sadly…

Working 15 hrs will it affect benefits
If you are on UC with your partner and you are getting ESA and PIP but find a part time job less than 15 hrs a week how will it affect your benefits? UC say that for each £1 you earn they deduct 55p but not sure about ESA and PIP. Thanks.

What help is available for a temporary disability?
Unfortunately I have fractured my pelvis while on holiday abroad. I am now home and wonder what help is available and how to access it. I have crutches supplied by the hospital overseas and that's it. A friend has offered the loan of a wheelchair, but our home isn't really set up for wheelchair use. Currently I can just…

Sensory Impairment Team Assessment
I have a relative who, like me, has a hearing problem. Her hearing is getting worse and she has been offered an assessment by her Local Council's Sensory Impairment Team. During the telephone call to arrange the appointment she was told that the way they (Council Occupational Therapy Department) provide equipment has…

DLA - change of circumstances
DLA - I have been getting middle rate care and lower rate mobility for my son for a few years, but it's been playing on my mind recently that I definitely should be getting higher rate mobility (which I can't get currently) and probably higher rate care. If I asked for a change of circumstances and DLA disagree that he is…

Acorn Stairlifts
Anyone out ther with similar experience? My father had an Acorn 'Curved' Stairlift installed in May 2022 at a princely price of £4500. He was pestered to takeout an service contract at an annual premium of £425. He declined. He had the 12 month service in June which was part of the initial purchase agreement. 5 weeks later…
