New to the Disability Money Matters board? Start here
This board is a discussion of all issues surrounding disability and how they relate to MoneySaving. Discussing benefits, discounts, cheaper ways to see consultants, cashback for alternative health treatments, how to get specific medication cheaper (legally) are all perfectly acceptable forms of discussion. Relevant links…

Proposed PIP Changes
Had a quick count up, if the new rules came into effect then a person could have over 20 points on the Daily Living but wouldn't be classed as disabled enough to get an award.

Dyslexia and debts
I strongly believe that there is a link between having dyslexia and being in debts heavily. I have experienced this with a close relative and it comes across quite clearly to me that this person doesn’t know how to manage his money, can’t get organised, never read small prints … and becomes a victim of bank charges and…

Helping a 80 year old man who was attacked by two Rottweilers 18 months ago and lost an arm and leg as a result. He can’t travel safely in a car so needs a mobility car with wheelchair access. Pip mobility car tax rebate
I didn’t need to pay tax on my previous car but do on my new(ish) car. I paid full price tax at the dealership, so want to claim my 50% discount. There is lots out there about how to pay for the tax but not a lot on how to claim a rebate, the DVLA chatbot is absolutely useless. Advice would be great fully received.

Hi, I'm getting increasingly concerned for my wife's mum. She has been in poor health and overweight for a number of years but has always kept on working. Over the last 2 years her health has deteriorated rapidly and she has thankfully now took the decision to retire. She has a heart condition that means she cannot walk…

Lose house when taken into care?
I have a family member in their 70s who recently had a brain aneurysm. It looks like they will have to remain in care. I am told their house may now be taken from them to pay for the care. However, their spouse still lives in the house. As does one of their two adult children. There are two rental properties too, but I'm…

Terminal Illness Discounts?
I was wondering if anyone knew of discounts available for people with terminal illness? Utilities, council tax etc.... Both the person with the diagnosis and his spouse are both above retirement age, so it appears the only state benefit available is the Attendance Allowance which can be fast tracked. I'm struggling to find…

Should I apply for PIP?
I am sure every claim is subjective, and people with various conditions will be impacted in wildly differing ways. I suffer from Ulcerative Colitis and have done for 20+ years now. I have had various surgeries, though nothing recently. My condition impacts me in different ways and to varying degrees over periods of time.…

Need some help/guidance on how to appeal my PIP award
Hi everyone. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. My partner suffers with Functional neurologic disorder which causes her to have a fit/seizure daily. Once the seizure stops, she needs me to assist her to bed and help get her undressed as she will be in pain all day and sleep for most of it. She needs…
