Stairlifts - buy or rent?
I have arthritis in my knee and am having real difficulty with the stairs in my house. I hope to get a knee replacement within the next year or so, after which I’ll hopefully be able to manage the stairs again. In the meantime a stairlift would make my life a lot easier. What are your experiences of renting a (straight)…

DWP discrimination against elderly and Disabled
Helping a 80 year old man who was attacked by two Rottweilers 18 months ago and lost an arm and leg as a result. He can’t travel safely in a car so needs a mobility car with wheelchair access. Naturally following such an awful event you would assume that he qualifies for the mobility scheme but no! He can’t get PIP as too…

Mother in law - Is she entitled to disability help?
Hi, I'm getting increasingly concerned for my wife's mum. She has been in poor health and overweight for a number of years but has always kept on working. Over the last 2 years her health has deteriorated rapidly and she has thankfully now took the decision to retire. She has a heart condition that means she cannot walk…

Moving house - getting help to clear house
Not massively disabled (but do have a blue badge) but do have back issues.... It makes it difficult now to move stuff around. Move stuff into storage. An hour or so loading the car etc means 3-4 days of pain. Just wondered how poor people even worse off than me manage with things like this. Is there someone you can pay…

Need recomendation for online pharmacy
Been with Lloyds online pharmacy nd used it mostly for repeat NHS prescriptions for my son. I was happy with their service and speed. They got sold off to Pharmacy2u, and the experience with them is dire, so looking to take my business elsewhere. The reviews for both Boots and Superdrug are bad. Initially considered Hey…

International blue badge?
More of a rant than anything else. I have a visitor who is disabled. In her home country (US) she has a blue badge but that doesn’t work here. Parking somewhere convenient or simply stopping to help her out of the car is a nightmare and severely restricts what we can do.

Adult who lack capacity and banking
My son is 42 and has autism and SLD. he is unable to manage his own affairs. Many years ago I set up current bank accounts for him and an ISA. One bank account receives his benefits and is his personal money and the other receives his funding from direct payments and I pay for his day service with that. They are both in…

Retrospective application for Disability Living Allowance (DLA)?
Hi, Our son was diagnosed with autism six years ago. Our daughter has just had the same diagnosis, however this time we were advised by the specialist that we should apply for Disability Living Allowance on her behalf. This was never suggested at the time of our son's diagnosis and I wondered if a retrospective application…

. . .Does anyone know what sort of maximum distance you're able to walk before you can be granted a Blue Disabled Person's badge? . . .I suffer from inflammatory arthritis/gout that make it very difficult for me to walk long distances (frequently I have to use my hands and knees to get upstairs at home!) and as I wrote…

Disabled Facilities Grant
Hi, I am helping my parents complete an application form for the DFG. It is far too complex for them to complete which makes me very sad for people who don’t have anyone to help. In most of the sections it gives an option to enter amounts in 2 columns, one for the applicant and the 2nd for partner. On the Savings,…

How to buy a stairlift
Sorry to say but you MUST book several quotes and you MUST haggle. 1. Delay as long as you can. Using the stairs really helps. Think, you're lifting a 10 stone weight up 15 feet., several times a day. That's a fair amount of exercise. Mum got swollen ankles as soon as she moved to a place without stairs. (Not a medical…
