Powerchair - Personal Liability Insurance

My daughter uses a powerchair (provided by NHS) and someone recently asked if we have the chair / her insured. Currently we do not. Do we need to consider personal liability insurance in case she hurts anyone / damages something? If so can any one recommend any insurers?

Your Home Contents insurance contains public liability which normally does cover you for things like cycling (within the UK). The only possible catch is if it's considered a "motor vehicle" which is always excluded but I would be a little surprised if it were.

    hi

My daughter has a power chair and we buy annual insurance which includes 3rd party liability to the tune of £1million. She rammed her chair into a brand new BMW a few years ago, luckily minor damage but since then I insure her chair. Better safe then sorry.

Fish insurance do wheelchair cover as do Surewise.

    I hope that helps.

I have my wheelchair insured because I bought it myself and it was blooming expensive; I don't know what the situation is with the NHS if hers gets damaged or stolen. My insurance does happen to include public liability, although I forget to what level exactly.

Mine is through Mark Bates because they were the only people I found who would cover it if it were stolen from e.g. a locked car. Everywhere else required that it be kept inside your house, which if you're a full-time user makes sense but for me I needed it to be okay when we stay in a caravan and we can't get my chair inside (I use a rolling stool to get around then, rather than my wheelchair).
