DLA to PIP by reason of increased disability. But are there implications

Is PIP taxable?  Ive been on DLA  for about 15yrs. Now in my 70s with increasing deafness but my mental health issue is under control with meds. I get the lower rate for personal care and getting around.
Age Concern advised notifying DWP, BUT Ive been told by DWP will mean changing to PIP.  Hubby believes PIP is taxed, with tax. Im now paying tax on my pensions this coming  year because of static tax threshold . Is it worth the change over .
 1950s birthday etc
PS
I'm entitled to a Hearing Dog ,so I'm classified severely to profoundly deaf and the dog can accompany me everywhere for confidence and to flag up the hearing loss.

You need to be careful, because PIP has different criteria to DLA so you might end up getting a reduced award. Have you looked at the criteria to to see how you think they might fit with your circumstances?

All disabled payments (PIP, DLA, AA) are tax free. I'm not sure you can be moved from DLA to PIP after retirement age, only to AA.

And if that is the case AA does not have a mobility component so you would lose that.

You can if you're young enough (currently the cutoff is if you're born before 9th April 1948).

You can claim PIP if both of the following apply:

    • you were born on or after 9 April 1948
    • you’re getting DLA now - or your last claim for DLA ended less than a year ago"
