Irresponsible lending
Evening, just seen this post on a different forum. An interesting one that has caused some debate. The OP has been advised to post on here. Here is the post- Hi, Ive just discovered that mum is in a bit of a mess! She’s 75, widowed 2 years ago and for the first time is having to manage her finances. ( dad always did it) in…

Dad living in debt due to inheritance fraud and heart failure diagnosis
My grandmother died around ten years ago to which my dad received some inheritance. We are unsure how much but know a decent amount (maybe £25k) was lost due to fraud at some point in this ten years; he's a proud man and not willing to let his children help him recover it. Now due to a recent heart failure diagnosis he is…

Irresponsible lending?
Not sure if am allowed to post more than 1 thread so please delete if not... I have just posted my SOA on a another thread, outlining our awful position. Last year I was approved for a credit card with a 10K limit - mainstream lender. This was a shock as at the time I was not doing well financially - some missed payments…

Submitting Budget & Payment Offers via letter or Credito
I’m new to all this and working on sending my budget and offers of payment. Speaking to my creditors, several of them seem to want me to submit my income and expenses via their own forms or in one case via their app. What’s the best thing to do - I really just wanted to send out identical paperwork to all creditors in one…

Unaffordable vet debt
I have had issues all year with my previous vet. They have had new management who have been making my life as difficult as possible. My boy, who was my world and sadly passed a couple of weeks ago, had been battling so much in recent years. I now believe that the vet didn’t act appropriately on separate occasions,…

Paragon query/ advice if poss !
Hi, . I need some advice … October 2015 my bf split from his wife . He literally had just the clothes on his back. My mom took him in as he was essentially homeless . He did work at the time. Start of 2016 he realised his wife had put them both in a lot of debt - he would work all hours and she would stay at home and be in…

Another irresponsible lending query!
Hi Guys, I am considering logging an irresponsble lending complaint for a complaint for a creation loan that I was given in 2017. The loan ended in 2021. I know that there is a 6 year rule - does this mean that I am too late. Is it 6 years from the point of application, or 6 years from when the credit agreement ended?

Does default change how I should tackle large debt?
Hi everyone, I love the support you give everyone in this community and I've been following passively for years. I'm in quite a spot of bother and I could use some advice on how to start being proactive. Over the last 5 years or so due to a bad relationship, covid and then unfortunately succumbing to a large gambling habit…

"enforcement officer" visit - do they leave a card if no one home?
If no one is at home, do they leave a card? Context - just received two letters for a previous resident - they'll be sent back 'return to sender / not known at this address' just like all the other post for that person. Not bothered about enforcement officers visiting as not our debt, but was curious if they'd leave a card?

Engage with Cabot now or wait until court action?
What is the consensus on engaging with debt collector companies like Cabot? Engage with them or ride it out until court action and hope to get the case dismissed on a technicality or settle at a late stage? Risky strategy perhaps! For transparency I have several defaulted credit card debts (I got into serious financial…

Advice for credit cards please
Hi, I am £10K in credit card debt, and have recently been made redundant. For the last couple of years, I've 0% balance transferred some credit cards and stayed on-top of my payments. Things have been tight for the last few months, what with the cost-of-living-crisis etc, and I was talking with one of my credit cards to…

Can I take the Status Barred option?
I live in Ontario, Canada. I received a message from PRA group to call them at an 844 number to settle an old debt from 2011. The debt doesn’t appear on my credit history report. I haven’t made any payments towards the debt nor have I accepted ownership over the debt. Can sending them a status barred letter work against…

Zopa Loan Financial Help - Does it even exist?
With the cost of living and my mortgage going up drastically, I reached out to Zopa to say I was going to struggle to make my payments over the next few months until I can catch up with myself after taking this hit. I spent over TWO HOURS on their chat with an agent with her quizzing me on income and mental health etc,…

PRA CCA - new info provided
Hi all, I have started previous threads on this. I asked for CCA from PRA for BC account opened on 2010. At first they provided default notice and something else, today they have provided me with what looks like a genuine CCA. In fact there seems to be two. One in the address I would have opened it in, and one in current…

PayPal credit CCA request/F&F
Hi guys, my PayPal credit account was recently sold to Lowell. They have written to me today offering a 70% discount and I’m tempted to try and get the funds together. Does this seem like a good offer for such an account? Also with regards to CCA requests for PayPal Credit, is the process the same as if it were a credit…

PRA Group advice
Hello there, Nervy lurker seeking some guidance on the infamous PRA group if possible, please. I’ve read other threads but they don’t seem to quite fit what I’d like to settle in my mind. I hope it is ok to start a new thread. I’m in the process of becoming debt-free (having made so many mistakes in dealing with the debt…

Allocating funds
Hi all, I find myself in the bittersweet position of recently getting an inheritance of £25k. The reason I’m posting on this board is that we have significant debt and I’m really not sure where to start with what to prioritise…. Living beyond our means historically plus some bad luck during covid got us into a real mess…
