Weekly Flylady Thread 14th September 2020
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole…

oven tray cleaning
Not sure if this fits on this board. I am looking to clean off baked-on grease - really quite a thick layer but it is not burnt to charcoal, it looks like a thick coat of varnish. The tray has a non stick coating too. I have tried acetone and petrol these had no effect at all. It might be different if I dipped it for a few…

Challenge thread - doing a waste audit for a week c/ 14 September 2020
Hi all, I used to be a member here some time ago, but I think the system must have changed somewhere along the line, so am back afresh :) Over the last couple of years, I've increasing become more conscious of waste both food waste, plastic waste, and how easy it is to over consume. I remember the 'old style' board as…

Cheese graters
I thought to ask here, as there are lots of useful tips and advice. My little old manual rotary cheese grater has just broken. It wasn't much good as it always seemed hard work cutting the cheese into small pieces, crushing down with the bar, then it left lots of ungrated cheese round the rim. I would like to replace with…

Smelly washing
it’s been in the living room since yesterday ,6 pm and still damp and smelly , which I think is due a problem with spin speed on the eco cycle ( I obviously need to give it another spin): Should it be rewashed now , when still wet , or wait for it to dry? would normal bio powder get the smell out?

A Slob Comes Clean
Has anyone else seen this blog/book/podcast/FB group? I have been listening to Dana over the last few days and she's really starting to brain wash me. I like her thinking. I didn't have the book, but it's on Kindle at Amazon for £1.99 at the moment. I treated myself to the audio supplement and listened to most of it while…

Storing storage
We are fitting a new kitchen next month and have started clearing out units in preparation. I've loads of plastic storage boxes some which are used only occasionally and others a lot depending on what I'm bulk freezing. I'm trying to avoid single use plastic so try to avoid freezer bags. This also means I've accrued random…

Chia seeds
I'm looking for tried and trusted savoury recipes that use chia seeds. I bought some a while ago and thought I would be adding to smoothies etc but since then have radically cut back on my sweet consumption, so I'm wondering whether any OSers can recommend what to do with them? I bought them with the health benefits in…
