O/S Daily Tuesday 8 September 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy, cool start to the day - forecast is for a cloudy day.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was chicken and leek pie, LO mash LO yorkshires, peas abd gravy for the menfolk, I had LO cold chicken and LO veg rice. Tonight will be fish, chips.jacket potato, beans/veg. I'll be having baked fish and veg.
Yesterday as expected started as a bit of a nightmare - systems not working - took a while to get sorted but still not sorted properly so we'll see how today goes. It was a busier day in general though, schools here went back yesterday so people trying to settle into the new normal.
When I got home after work yesterday I started to make some green tomato chutney - chopped the tomatoes and onions to get them layered in a bowl with salt overnight - tonight I'll finish it off with adding chopped apples and sultanas, sugar and boil, then into jars - we'll see how it goes first time making this!
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Not a bad morning here but definitely autumnul. I've just picked a bowl full of tomatoes from outside, there are still plenty to come if they ripen. At least with all this rain I don't have to water them!
I sold a bike yesterday and someone came to pick it up but their car wasn't big enough so it's here until the weekend. I can't believe how many replies I had to the advert, bikes must be in short supply! I think I'll have to put it back in the shed tonight as it's taking up most of the hall space.
Work was really, really busy yesterday, we had the photographer in so I had done my 10,000 steps by lunchtime with going to collect siblings and different classes. Hoping today is a bit quieter.
Hope everything goes well for you MM, I'll be thinking of you.
TA - our covid restrictions are tightening here too.
Have a happy Tuesday. Take care. XX14 -
Good morning all, fine and dry here - I've just lost a massive post so I'm gnashing my teeth down to the gums, anyway hope everyone has a good day.

Grrr and double Grrr! My riveting post has just disappeared too to wherever lost posts go to. Must have thought Scarlet's post needed company.
So may post later if anything exciting happens here. Meanwhile ((HUGS)) for all in need of them and take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Morning all how odd quite a few people seem to be loosing posts i wonder if there is a glitch in the system
The weather is ok today not sure the mini heatwave is going to turn up as promised but i am not too worried as i need to finish tidying DS room . I may pop to Costco as they have some bits i could get for xmas pressies I am worried if we all go back into lockdown its bad enough near xmas anyway so i am going to try and get ahead I can't face the thought of the big shopping centre so I am getting bits when i see them .
Another disaster looms our holiday to Mauritius has had the flight changed and instead of a 2 hour layover in Dubai its now 10hours so we loose a day and its now a 23 hour journey which i would never have booked we paid a bit extra for the short layover flight . I have put my travel agent onto it but I wish now we had just gone to Turkey in the summer and not bothered I did book this before covid so like everyone I didn't know what this year would bring.
Right good news carpet man came and i choose the new stair and landing carpet so that will be done in the next 3 weeks the price was good less than i expected DH just needs to do the papering so i shall prepare myself for shouty sweary day this weekend.
Dinner tonight open burgers and HM chips with coleslaw and salad . Have a great day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini12 -
Good morning folks. The weather may turn out well, or it may turn wet, it's hard to tell right now.My afternoon yesterday was spent carefully unpicking the neck labels from my new jumpers and T-shirts. They really aggravate me, as do the ones at waist height, so they had to go. This time I managed without putting a hole in the fabric, in the past I haven't been so successful. Then I cut out the multiple care labels which are not even legible even in different languages. Will this change post-Brexit I wonder.Today I'll be waiting indoors for a delivery from Amazon. I've got five items coming all at once. As they deliver direct from the warehouse it could be up to 10pm but I really hope not as I'll be in bed by 8.30pm. 😀
Roughly 25 years ago I bought myself a fabulous Technics separates HIFI set which I eventually passed onto DM. Now it stands unused as DM is deaf and I have moved onto newer technology. One of the neighbours here is an audio technician / music producer so I offered it to him - he's delighted to have it so is calling in to collect it this morning. I'll put it all in the hall so he doesn't have to come right into the flat. It's very sad to give up something which gave me such pleasure, however it's great that he can make good use of it. Time to just let go.I hope that everyone is doing well, happy Tuesday to all.13 -
Morning all, the weather's a bit grim here- that fine rain that wets you through, but lots of it !
DH/DS are working outside today finishing off a patio, yeuch.
DGS enjoyed his 1st day back at school yesterday, how long for though I don't know as apparently 15 schools in GManchester have had positive tests.I need to take something out of the freezer for tea, I fancy making a chilli.Green bin day today, one of the young men has taken to waving at me and putting the bin back in the front garden, which is very kind - must feel sorry for the old dear, but I do always say thank you when I get the chance. r
Camelot, it seems second hand vans are in short supply too - the dealer where DH got his van from 3 years ago, rang him to see if he wanted to sell it as they're struggling to get hold of them & it wasn't just to encourage him to buy a new one either.I've a bit of admin for DH, and I must email my oldest friend, then I'll find another hotspot ( there are plenty!) I may make a few more laundry bags too, as demand seems to be growing again, apparently one of the local high schools is asking for them for the kids to put their clothes in when they do PE. I've an old duvet cover I can cut up.Right I shall wish everyone a good day & stop procrastinating:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Good morning and thank you for starting us off nmlc.
Not actually raining so washing is on the line. Yesterday's can join it too, it did not dry.
Yesterday I did some jobs, cleaned the oven - I don't enjoy that somehow. Failed on the ironing front again, I put it out to do and somehow forgot. I will try to motivate myself today and I need to do the kitchen windows, just how *someone* has splashed water that high is another of life's little mysteries.
I will go for a walk today, yesterday the heavens opened, fortunately just before I set off.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning all
Dry here but a bit overcast I have a wash on the go and will hang it out for a while, kitchen will need a clean through as well, the dw went on after dinner last night so will need emptying, and the cups and glasses etc from the evening need clearing away.
My new phone arrived yesterdayits lovely and the camera on it is amazing !! I have already takes loads of photos of the dogs, I have got most things sorted on it but need to contact my bank as I cant get the fingerprint log in thing to work so need to get that swapped over.
Dinner today will be something with chicken maybe summer in winter chicken as that is nice and easy.or a curry.
I hope Marie is getting on ok and they dont cancel again x
Have good days all xx12 -
Morning all, another day, another dollar as they say. The sun is out although it's supposed to be cloudy with showers, so no outside work will be planned for today. The lockdown occurred last night in Caerphilly county, no one in or out. I can see this being adopted in a lot of areas of SE Wales soon as there are several schools in 7 boroughs with positive tests. SiL, in a secondary school, is still not happy with his school as it seems back to pre-covid ways, so he and DD will be keeping away from both sides of the families for now. Just when you think it is safe to get back into the water eh ?Today Mr Fix It will have a look at the sewing machine as the tension wasn't quite right last time I tried to use it. I think he's going to service it at the same time, I shall supervise
Later I want to defrost the chest freezer ready for topping it up, I get twitchy if levels drop to about half way. Tea today will be corned beef hash, I quite fancy that at the moment, it's simple like me !
Now, now I didn't say easy, I'm not that sort of girl !!
Hugs to all the poorly ones, those struggling with lockdown or just daily life.MM thinking of you today.RosyR glad DGS enjoyed his day at school.bella sorry about your holiday debacle, hope it gets sorted to your satisfaction.Take care all, stay safe and keep wellnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13 -
Morning all..I've been up for a while, had two cups of tea and some toast. Just been wandering round the internet...Today I'm having lunch out with friends as part of our go places week, not that there are many places we can go, and I hope it doesn't rain. I have my umbrella at the ready. My pavillion wood stilll hasn't turned up and I'm getting a bit annoyed now so I might go there on the way back and ask what the fudge is going on. And the riddling is ongoing again now that it's been a bit drier [riddling stones and wet sand is no joke], I have the back bit around the bed to cover. I do a couple of wheelbarrows, then I'm pooped a need a rest. Ankle is still not working properly, I might go and see someone about cracking it back into whatever place it should be. Supper is fajitas because I remembered to take the chicken out of the freezer last night, the quiche I made on Sunday was eaten yesterday too...I'm impressed with my new quiche dish, I got it during lockdown [ another one of my omg, I need that kitchen thing in my life moments] it's got holes all over it so the bottom cooks brilliantly. And that's m day in a nutshell. And I would probably type more but my keyboard keeps missing letters and spaces so I have to keep going back to edit and it's getting on my nerves...Stay safe out there peeples....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi14
