Storing storage

We are fitting a new kitchen next month and have started  clearing out units in preparation. I've loads of plastic storage boxes some which are used only occasionally and others a lot depending on what I'm bulk freezing. I'm trying to avoid single use plastic so try to avoid freezer bags. This also means I've accrued  random plastic take away tubs too. I'm weeding out all the mismatches. I don't like to store them with lids on as they take up more space and can go fusty.
Any one any suggestions  before OH bins them all. 😬
Thanks

  • I stack the tubs inside each other and keep the lids stacked upright in a small box repurposed for this; it’s put an end (mostly) to that scenario where you open the cupboard and an avalanche of plastic covers you.

Mine are nearly all takeaway tubs, every so often I prune them and get rid of the brittle ones or ones with no lids. If you are really geeky you can go through and mark the lids and tubs with matching coloured felt pens to make it easier to match them up, I keep thinking I’ll do this but never get round to it. I probably have too many, but like you if I am doing batch cooking I need enough to hold several portions. Good luck with the new kitchen!

  • Yes I really should get busy with the Sharpies while I have the opportunity.  Like you something I keep meaning to do. Also frustrating is when I buy a pack of something that seems to be the same as I already  have. Only to find that they are very slightly different and not interchangeable at all.😠

The ones I hate are those where the lids pop off at the slightest provocation, leaving you with an uncovered frozen block and usually more than one lid lurking in the depths of the freezer drawer. I continually have to remind myself to label the body of the container as well as the lid.
