O/S Daily Wednesday 9 September 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry underfoot, yesterday turned out to be sunny and warm today is forecast not so warm but dry and some sun.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 still in his pit he has some leave, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had baked fish and veg. I got the pork steaks out to defrost, I'll braise them, in stock and I'll serve them with mash, veg, LO yorkshire and gravy.
Yesterday work wasn't too bad but new tech is supposed to work from today - we'll see.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
It's darker now than when I got up - not a good sign! There was a lot of overnight rain that woke me up a couple of times but at least it's quite mild. Definitely no heatwave here!
Work was interesting yesterday, I had to put the dog guard up at the door to the office to stop people coming in, little wonder our cases of Covid are rising as people really don't get the social distancing guidelines. It seems that rules are being broken to suit Management, I've said my bit but it won't make any difference.
I picked some lovely dhalias and gladioli from the garden yesterday, such beautiful colours and they are in a jug brightening up the kitchen. Hope the wind stays away or there will be more in here than I can cope with!
Hope you had your op yesterday MM and are on the road to recovery.
Take care. XX13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's a bit damp looking outside but the forecast is for a pleasant day with sunny spells so the washing is already waiting to go out.
I am up and at 'em early this morning as the Virgin engineer is booked for between 8 and 12. Sod's law, as I am on track to be organised in readiness for an 8 a.m. arrival, he will arrive at 11.55! I have a dead phone line. I very rarely use it to ring out but the scammers will be missing it! Plus it was useful last week when I was getting to grips with my new mobile!
DD called after work yesterday to collect the charity bags I have had filled upstairs since April! She has a slot to drop stuff off at the big Sue Ryder shop in town and said she would take mine too. So just the boxes of DM's ornamental plates, ginger jars, jugs etc to find homes for now!
I finally got the big freezer defrosted yesterday. Then everything went back in all nicely organised again. Why doesn't it stay that way! It looks less full now it is all tidy so I shall be joining NAN in a panic soon! I am at my happiest when it's crammed full, all ready for a siege! I should have defrosted the smaller freezer at the same time but, as it didn't looked as bad, it can wait a bit longer. It did at least get tidied.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all and stay safe. xx

Morning all Early one for me as off to pick DS from the airport seems everyone else in my family is getting a holiday my travel agent says Emirates can't help and we need to wait 2 weeks she thinks the holiday will be pulled at that point yesterday was just the final straw and i had a meltdown on the phone with her but as she knows us i felt a bit better afterwards. Right today I will go to Costco and get a few bits other than that i suppose i had better do some washing . Have a great day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini14

Good morning, and thanks NMLC.It's a fine quiet morning, I'll get washing dry today I think - yesterday was ana ideal day for drying, but I just didnt get any done. I hd to go out, then Dgs arrived for the afternoon. We took him to the park to feed the birds, then up to our little railway station to see a few trains passing. He's changed so much in the last 6 months, it's a long time in his little life. Our Tuesday quiz had started last week, of course we were away, but we went last night and had a really good night.I'll get to grips with some serious housework today - I'll have to or I'll be reported to Environmental Health and workers will be sent in to dig us out!! Maybe not quite that bad, but the house could certainly stand some attention. So that's my day - hope everyone else has a good 'un, take care folks.PS, hope you're ok MM, and that your op went ok.15

Morning folks.Still semi-dark and very dull here. No doubt rain will join in soon. It's back to the garage for new tyres today. The chap was so apologetic on Monday but I don't have much else to do. I'll drop off stuff at the CS on the way back. The neighbour collected all the HIFI stuff yesterday, eight pieces of equipment took five trips up to the top flat. He was delighted. DM was delighted with the space that was created and spent a bit of time tottering around re-arranging books and the directing the troop (me) about furniture. The LPs must be next to go. I've found some 45s from the late 60s which I'll keep for now and research a bit.The balance board arrived yesterday, it'll certainly take some learning to just get on and stand on it. I'll need to be in the kitchen to hold onto things.Right, off to get ready. Happy Wednesday to all.14

Good morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc.
I have been up since 4, I had a nightmare and then got too hot so gave up. I've had lots of tea and now got toast and marmite.
I had a pleasant walk yesterday, nowhere special, just a bit of fresh air, then sat about in the garden being a lazy slob. I saw a goldfinch, that was a treat, I'm hoping it was not a one off visit, such a beautiful bird. Only the usual birds so far th
i s morning, two magpies, some bluetits and a coaltit.
Paperwork to do today, after that the world is my lobster.
Hope MM is ok and recovering well.
We have food delivery from mr M This evening. Nothing much else to report.
Hope everyone has a good day

Morning all! Binmen Recycling operatives have been for the tins and paper, now just the plastic and the normal bins to go and the green bin gets done tomorrow, good job, it's quite heavy if not quite full after the grass has collapsed in it over the last few days. I really scalped it this time, hoping to avoid needing to cut it for another three or four weeks, although if it's anything like last year, I think I was still cutting in November. Not got much planned for today except the usual lessons and shaking a riddle..Didn't go to the wood place yesterday, dropped off a few jars of preserves [in the recycled jars not the good ones because there's no guarantee I'll get them back to fill whereas I will be more likely to with friends] for a bloke who'd given me a bucket of apples [or two...] a few weeks ago. I may go today...I walked around the block last night, i could hear a cat really wailing so I thought I'd look. DIdn't find anything although I did see a fox running off into the waste ground at the bottom of the street but I did notice tht quite a lot of people have put bollards on the grassy bit in between the houses to stop cars parking on and churning up the grass. That's filed away for future use.Camelot, I'm glad I'm not in work because that would freak me out.TA, going to join you in the great freezer re-organisation of 2020 at some point this week
AOD, sounds lovely, all we get is seagulls and complaining magpies....Hey all reading along, hope you're staying alive, staying alive...Have a wholesome Wednesday!

Morning all
Had a really bad night last and so did not get up till 9.30still never mind I dont have a lot to do today or any day atm in fact
OH is still off and suffering with his back so there is three of us at home atm which has put me off my stride and I am even less inclined to do anything !!
DD and I had a lovely walk yesterday we went to a common / heath and walked round there it was beautiful and we saw several woodpeckers and a kestrel the dogs loved it too so we will go again.
We had a late lunch yesterday of a fish finger sandwich so did not want our dinner, we just had baled beans on toast, so the summer in winter chicken will now be tonight (DP1 I put the link up yesterday for it )
I hope MM is ok and the op went ahead.
Have good days all xx13 -
Morning all, we have overcast skies and not much breeze, so I'm unsure as to do the washing or not. It's Mr Fix It's birthday today and DD bought him a new Alexa, so he's playing with that at present. I hope she's better at doing what she's told than the old one ( Alexa not DD ) who would pipe up without be asked anything, that was spooky !I sorted and defrosted the chest freezer yesterday and on reaching the bottom I was a bit worried as I had to go on tip toes to wipe it out, either it's grown or I'm shrinking again ! Now there a big chasm to fill but I have to get an Iceland slot later as we need fresh stuff, so I may be able to fill a bit of it with some fishy things for me too. There is certainly a lot of meat already in the freezer, 8 packs of mince beef for a start
I have taken some beef steaks out for tea as a treat for Mr Fix It but I'll cook it in the slow cooker with some onion gravy, I don't want to ruin it by frying. There is a millionaires tart for pudding too as he didn't want me to make a birthday cake, not just for the 2 of us. That will make more empty space in the freezers which I'll have to fill
I'll have to do the ironing today, there's not much and I'll be fine when I start it, it's just the getting going.Well I decided mid post to put a wash on, so I'll hang it out later and hope it dries. The skies at the front are grey but the ones at the back are blue, so who knows which side will win.Right enough from the welsh waffler today.Anyone seen Monna lately, I'm missing " thought for today"Take care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11 -
Hello, I read this thread everyday and love keeping up with everyone's lives. I was wondering if anyone has heard from Monnagran as she hasn't posted for a while xx9
