Eating healthy for cheap
Hi there, My name is James, I'm 41 & have two children (15 & 12). My Wife & I have been guilty over the years of cutting costs on food & feeding our family cheap & processed foods. I'm not going to lie, we would happily buy 4 Lidl pizzas at £2.50 each & that would be a family dinner sorted. I have come to terms that really…

When did Dinner plates become so big?!
I bought a new set of Dinner plates, for the first time in years and had to take them back, as the plates were HUGE! So i got a different set, and they are just as big! In fact, so were the majority of ones i looked at. Literally they are about double the size of what we need. When did plates get so big? No wonder there is…

creative dehoarding ideas?
I am a hoarder. My problem is that both that I hate things that have a use going to waste and if I have paid money for something with a function and it still has that function, I expect to get some of that money back. I have managed to work on the 2nd aspect such that sometimes I can now give stuff 'free to a good home',…

When Electrical Goods Conspire!
Moan Alert:eek: So payday comes and coincides with this http://www.vaxsale.co.uk/login/ and I thought it would be a brill time to replace my held-together-with-gaffer cleaner. Researched madly and found what I wanted for around £40+pp (reduced from £99.99). Fits in my budget and ticks the box for compact/lightweight/long…

Sheets, burhsed cotton, flannel
Has anyone bought flannel/brushed cottons sheets. Perhaps online. I'm looking for some very high quality sheets. I've bought some from department stores, but they tend to be quite thin and wear out quickly. In the US you can buy thick sheets that last 20 years. Thanks

Good value fabric
Hello again. I am looking for some good value fabrics - jerseys and cottons in particular for some craft projects. It's been a while since I bought fabric and it's more expensive than I remember. Has anyone got any recommendations of where to buy?

Where can I get thick bedsheets?
I'm really struggling to find these. I want thick, stiff cotton flat sheets. Not sateen or anything silky smooth etc. It doesn't have to be cotton actually, any material is fine. After doing a lot of reading up on google, I ended up ordering 400 thread count Egyptian cotton percale. Apparently, percale would give the…

Help Jam Crisis!
So I used about 1200g of rhubarb last night to make jam. It's currently in a pyrex jug in the fridge, what do I do with it? I can't "can" it as I don't have the suitable stuff and don't think it would be very money saving to go and buy the necessary stuff. My mum was pulling up the last crop of Rhubarb for this year and…

Using up tuna pasta bake?
We had it for dinner last night and there's half left. I need to serve it up with something - not salad or veg. Other half loves neither, he's not that keen on fish but I insist that we have it once a week. What can I serve the cold bake with? Ideas?

(Move if needed) feeling silly and a question
Okay so it isn't like I'm a newbie but I've only just discovered the control area of the site to allow you to see every post you've made rather than subscribed to. Does anyone know of a forum walk through? (I'm not a technophobe by any means but I have never seen this facility before, it was my one year old hitting the…

Plastic on the hob! Help!
Popped into the kitchen to make myself a cuppa, found the naan breads had fallen onto the warm hob. Any ideas on non destructive ways to get the stuck plastic off? It's stuck fast. Would warming the hob and scrubbing with a metal scourer thingy help? Excuse the giant pic, I have no idea how to re-size:…

To all the angels that touch our lives...
Having a !!!!!! week (and it's only Monday). Feel free to skip, but I want to share this as it's being a burden on my mind, and I figure some here might understand. We all have people in our lives that touch us. Moments in our life that change us. And sometimes remembering those moments hits us and just won't let go. My…

Old Style Pen Pals
Although stamps aren't cheap now! I have been watching Frontier Life on DVD and in it they are excited to get letters and news from home. Got me thinking that it would be lovely to have an old style pen pal - you know handwritten letters with little life updates and simple daily things. I guess it is the Autumn weather - I…
