O/S Daily Thursday 29 September 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now getting light, dry underfoot, but windy.

DH and DS1 up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly to get ready for college.

Dinner last night was a change to the plan as DH had a late job, so was late home, boys and myself had vegetable rice with breaded chicken pieces, DH had already eaten by the time he got home. Tonight will be gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

Work yesterday was reasonably quiet, I'm now on days' off until Monday. I have the usual "to do" list today, so will be cracking on with that. Dirty wash basket is full, and it's looking likely weather won't be so good after tomorrow, so will endeavour to get all the washing up to date, if some has to be put in TD so be it, but hopefully not too much, first load is now on the line. Next load in and just waiting for DS2 to finish in the shower, then I'll turn it on.

I'll be heading into town shortly to visit the building society and bank, I'm going to visit the butcher whilst there to see if I can get meat that's better value than the SM - not just in price but quality too. I've had nice meat from there in the past, I'm trying different ways to stop visiting 2 SM's every week, and just visit big SM every couple of week's or ideally once a month - that may be stretching it a bit though! I'll be writing a menu plan and shopping list today too.

Keep safe and well x

Off to work today and into battle, my L&M's shift are being changed with no consultation or discussion, I'll shall be drawing this to the attention of HR.

I have face ache from sleeping with my teeth clenched all night, I'm getting bouts of diverticulitis and I'm covered in stress hives, if I was a horse they'd shoot me!

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

HH - Hope all your problems are resolved soon.

I was woken about half 4 by the storm outside, I see I have gained a wheelie bin lid in the drive, glad it missed the car! Still raining but a little calmer now. Hope you are safe Gers, must be horrid where you are. It is surprisingly mild though.

The sewing machine was collected yesterday, great service so far. The delivery guy said he has collected quite a few lately and they are sending out brand new ones, we'll see.

Work and hospice today, washing is on the airer and DW emptied. Must sort out the car insurance later.

Have a good day, hope you have better weather where you are. Take care. XX

Morning, thanks for the thread nmlc x

    Hester - I wish you well x

DH left early doors for his weekend away. He will be away for DDs birthday on Saturday. Not entirely happy with that or that he bought me secateurs for my birthday (yes really) but has spent £177 on kit for this weekend plus has taken £200 with him, have just discovered that the DW didn't go on whilst I was running youth club last night - guess that's my job then....

Today I will go to the gym then into the charity. I then have to go to the church to meet a gas engineer as our water heater has broken, then home to cook tea and hopefully a sit down at some point. I have some knitting to do which will take me away from my thoughts.

Hope you all have a good day

    Morning all

Running very late as over slept grey and miserable here and Im supposed to be on the BBQ at work today for a party :D don't know if it will happen now !

Log burner is fantastic :j we were allowed to light it last night but only a small fire because the plaster was still drying, the heat it chucked out was amazing and warmed my cold kitchen up as well, I am very pleased with it indeed !

Hester you have so much on your plate atm, take care hun xx

Better dash have good days all xx
  • Morning all, I am typing while glaring at the tablet and daring it to eat my post today - yesterday Judi suggested going backwards on my browser but sadly that had not worked.
DS is in London and other furrin parts with a friend for a week and a bit. Part of his preparation ok most of it was for me to wash seemingly nearly all his clothes.
Today I am having this pestilential bit if bone removed from my jaw, that'll be fun, am so looking forward to it. Some years ago my dentist surgery dropped out of the nhs so not cheap, but I've heard so many horror stories from friends who have changed dentists for similar reasons that I have stayed with them.
Hester, Im sorry to read that you are so stressed, I grind my teeth too, wasn't aware if it but have ground the lower ones down quite a lot now so dentist had a mouth guard made for me. It cost £100 and I don't like it but am trying to avoid grinding them down to little stumps.
Am on days off for a week and a half with the exception if weds , when I must put in an appearance. Also we have ofsted in so if my manager wants me, I'll go in.
I was up at 4, woken by driving rain and now it is clearing. Washing is ready for the line.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone,

Dry here and really quite mild.

Sorry to hear you feel so rough Hester please take care of yourself x

Well all change today as Mum is being discharged and going to stay with my DB for a few days ( they have a downstairs bedroom & wet room) so at least she will be out of the hospital which she is ready to do. They hope to have care ready in place for next week so fingers crossed that's the case, they are ordering a hospital bed for her, will need to get over the bungalow tomorrow and re-arrange things so that can go in,

Didn't sleep well and feel like a wet rag, ho-hum.

Glad you are pleased with your log burner RR how cosy :)

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

    Morning everyone.

What a wild stormy night we've had here, the rain has been hammering against the house and the winds have kept me awake a lot. There's been a three minute lull and now it's starting again. The wind is forecast to die down this morning.

Yesterday my trip to Paisley was difficult, not just because of the weather (ferry to Greenock was not advisable) but the woman I was taking must have been st least 90 and using crutches. Her husband had been hit by a car which hadn't stopped and he's now paralysed from the neck down. It may not be permanent but only time will tell. Heartbreaking. She hadn't seen him in 10 days.

I did 270 miles in the round trip so when I got home I felt I deserved a large glass of wine whilst watching GBBO in bed.

My new Amazon Echo arrived yesterday, I CBA'd to open the parcel yesterday so I'll do that later. I've my two hour teaching session this afternoon. All the homework came in last night, thank goodness. Perhaps we'll have a better dynamic this week.

I'm back to avocado and egg for breakfast again and I've got chicken for main meal.

    Happy Thursday everyone.

Good Morning chums and , <<hugs to those who need one>> and there are a few just lately who could do with a few I fear.

This morning my lovely gardener Mick comes along to give my garden a tidy up then round to my Dds to tidy hers up as well :)

My DD treated me to a lovely houndstooth check jacket yesterday for the winter and I am really pleased as I was in need of a new one .My old ones had gone to the CS as they were all too big for me.

I have just stripped the bed and changed it all and fingers crossed although its a bit damp at the moment outside the forecast is better for this afternoon so I will do a machine wash this morning so its out of the way before the weekend.

Almost another month gone and time is just galloping by just lately, hope you all have a good day what ever you are doing

    Cheers chums

  • Good morning all x
Well yesterday I finally convinced the doc to let me go back to work. Only mornings starting from Mon for 4 weeks but at least I will not have the money worry so much now.
DW on as it didn't go on last night.
Pasta bake tonight for dinner .
    No news on FIL.
Gonna make the best of these last 2 days freedom and do just what I want not what I have too (unless I want too lol)
Seems a lot of us are down in the dumps of late. Let's hope we can all get through it X
Anyhoo hugs to all in need xx
    Bright Blessings xx
  • Morning. ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. Its a brightish morning, sun keeps coming and going. No rain overnight, we seem to be forecast to miss most of it.

Off to Bingham to the library and Aldi, just a small shop this time, pretty well stocked up.

OH wants to start putting wood preservative on the new fence and gate, I bought the stuff some time ago, maybe he will do a bit this afternoon after he has had his siesta, otherwise it will be tomorrow.

I have enough soup left for lunch, need to do mac cheese for tonight, also a pudding of some sort. I have a bag of plums in the freezer, will get them out and defrost them, make a quick , that will do us two nights.

Did not sleep too well went off ok but woke around 2 am. it was after 5 am before I got off again, then the alarm went off, so it was getting up time.

Hester, I am sorry you are having such a rough time just now, I hope you manage to get things resolved for L & M, so nasty to do things behind his back.

Right, time to get my butt into gear and get off to Bingham.
