Good value fabric

Options
Hello again.

I am looking for some good value fabrics - jerseys and cottons in particular for some craft projects.
It's been a while since I bought fabric and it's more expensive than I remember. Has anyone got any recommendations of where to buy?

Comments

  • Where to buy fabric....

If you're anywhere near Birmingham, get thee to the Rag Market and Barry's Fabrics just round the corner
If you want to buy online- Minerva crafts are usually reliable.
If you're willing to be flexible about what you looking for try Croft Mill.
  • I always go to the market - there are usually a few end-of-roll and fent men there. Failing that - charity shop garments (maxi frocks/mens shirts for cotton) - bonus - salvage buttons/zips!

Well, certainly don't buy from any of the 'patchwork' type outlets!

Markets & individual shops seem very variable.

I have 2 main sites that I regard as 'good value'. One: fabricuk.com has an amazing range. They charge 50p a sample, but they are a good size, and all the fabric I have bought from them has been very good quality.

For really cheap & cheerful try the fabricland.co.uk - afficionados will be sorry to know that the website has been updated and is not longer the astonishngly bizarre one we knew & loved! You have to ring for samples (thy are very helpful)
  • I second Croft Mill - otherwise Abakhan if you're near Manchester, or they do mail order too!

I miss the website! I used to tell friends to go on it just to marvel at all the strange graphics!

Fabricland is great for big, cheap and cheerful projects, and the staff are great - I needed to make some 'lacy' bunting (!) and they were very creative, finally selling me some plasticy tablecloth fabric - I thought it weird, but the people i was making it for loved it (and the price)

Charity shop near me often has double duvet covers for £1.50, which has been great for some craft projects.
