Le Creuset accident
Hello everybody, and Happy New Year / Blyddyn Newydd Dda. I have a low sided cast iron enamel casserole, quite large and used daily. Gulp, I left it to warm up on an electric hob, forgot and the result is a burn, enamel has melted in the middle exposing the cast iron. Is it useless, any way of saving it (new ones…

Trying to eat healthy but what about the Xmas stuff?
Now that Christmas is over I want to lose quite a bit of weight. The only problem is that there's alot of leftover food from Christmas and New Year (the usual quiche, pork pies, sausages, crisps and dips). The money saver in me says to use it all up and then start with the healthy eating but I could be at it for ages. If…

Meal planning ideas for fusspots please !
I am trying to build up a list of meal ideas for our family, as it is not unusual for me to cook 3 different meals and my food budget is out of control (bows head in shame). DS has school meals and has a light evening meal from a very restricted menu (that's another post). In the first instance, just being able to plan for…

Using up left-over champagne
Hello everyone, Firstly, a Happy New Year to you all! I've got half a bottle of champagne left from last night, and my OH and I are not big drinkers, so it won't be drunk as is. So, my question is, what can I cook with it to use it up? Thank you in advance for all of the suggestions. sexymouse ETA - I don't know if this…

does ready rolled icing set hard?
Does anyone know if the ready-rolled icing sets completely hard? I've used it on Xmas cakes before, but as far as I remember, it never sets as much as royal icing would. I'd like to be able to cut out shapes in the icing to dry to decorate cakes with & was wondering if this ready-rolled stuff sets as rock hard as I would…

Roast Potatoes & Tin Foil
Happy New Year everyone. My roasting tin is a bit scored and scratched and I need to make roast potatoes today. I have goose fat to roast them in. Would it be ok to line the tin with tin foil to stop the potatoes sticking to the tin? I can only find info saying you shouldn't cover them with tinfoil as they will go soggy.…
