Ok, long time lurker and occasional poster.... Forgive me if this is in the wrong place.
I discovered the joy of HM hampers for Xmas - chutneys etc, and well, they went down a storm (so much so I have requests for repeats for BBQ season!!)
But, I wondered if there were any other recipes out there I could try. I tried looking at the Jam and chutney collection thread but they seem to be mostly jams and we are a savoury (!) bunch here.
Any ideas, please?
PS - I already do piccallil (sp??), pickled onions, pickled cabbage, christmas chutney (kind of tomato, pepper and aubergine), butternut squash apricot and almond chutney (SC recipe).....

i made a pear and cranberry chutney for christmas this year, turned out well for a first attempt
it was a delia smith recipe0 -
How about red onion marmalade - there's a great recipe on here, somewhere. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll PM it to you.
You can also make pickled gherkins and onions and jellies such as red currant, white currant, black and white currant, hawthorn and wild apple, quince, damson, bilberry...
Tomato ketchup is very easy to make as is mushroom ketchup and
damson ketchup. There's also spicy tomato ketchup.
Then there's chutneys; spicy plum, mango, onion, apple, cranberry.
I use Margerite Pattern's 'The Basic Basics' - brilliant recipes with good advice step by step.

This year I have made Pear Chutney and Gooseberry Chutney from the fruit in my garden. Both were very easy to make and delicious.
I 'googled' to find the recipes.
Good Luck and enjoy0 -
id definetly reccomend red onion marmalade too, its very simple to make and onions are usuallu cheaper than fruit at the moment0

One year when I was really skint I made chutneys for gifts - trouble was, the recipients expect them every year now! So I've experimented...
I use the onion marmalade recipe in "Floyd on France" but there are lots of recipes out there - it also works half-and-half with peppers (discovered when I was sick of chopping onions)
Cherry chutney, just repalce some of the apple, for instance, in a basic chutney recipe - goes well with duck. Or cranberry chutney for Christmas turkey!0
