Trying to eat healthy but what about the Xmas stuff?

Options
Now that Christmas is over I want to lose quite a bit of weight.
The only problem is that there's alot of leftover food from Christmas and New Year (the usual quiche, pork pies, sausages, crisps and dips).
The money saver in me says to use it all up and then start with the healthy eating but I could be at it for ages.
If any of you are trying to start the New Year off on a healthier lifestyle, what are you doing with the stuff you have left?

  • Freeze what you can and eat what you and yours can eat as part of healthy meals.

OH and I are just eating our way through what we have - I didnt over buy so there is possibly a few days worth of stuff left over. By the time it is done I will be ready for a supermarket shop.
  • I agree. The only thing you can really do is freeze what ever you can and then eat in portions.

Any of the neighbours still having guests in over the next few days? One of my neighbours came over with the offer of half of a huge catering size chocolate gateau that her OH had bought by mistake. I've got another family joining us for a meal tomorrow, so that's pudding sorted. I gave her a bottle of wine for it. (I don't drink...only keep it for guests.)

I haven't got loads left over but I have frozen some stuff, including cheese (grate beforehand!) which can be added to pasta bakes etc. Not sure what I'm going to do with the pot of clotted cream though, I suppose that could be frozen too.

We were given quite a bit of chocolate, but I'm quite restrained when it comes to that so I've just put it all in a big tupperware tub and will have a little bit now and then. I'm a big believer in not denying myself treats altogether whilst dieting - if I do that then I just end up going crazy and eating my weight in cake one day when I can't take it any more! :D

  • Id say freeze what you can and store choc/biscuits etc in a dry cool place in an airtight container then if you need a small treat tou can have some without having to buy an any more which is MS, failing that just eat half portions of the food.

Clotted cream freezes well, i've just decanted a LBS worth into smaller containers later in the year will treat myself to a strawberry shortcake or a cream tea, waistline permitted :)

Always a mistake to think you can start a diet the first week of January - just too much food left to eat and your stomach is used to bigger meals from Xmas /New Year.
Give yourself a break - this week freeze what you can, give away what you can, use what you can, try and get back onto healthy foods and start your diet in a week or so.
I know, I know, we are all thinking 'new year new start' but you have to deal with the real world first.

    Good luck !

I take mine into work & put it in the kitchen area - everyone nibbles their way through it & I get shot of it!

    Result!

  • I used to take things to work but am now horrified at the idea of giving away what I've bought (oh plus I don't have a job!).

We start our new years "healthy start" in February, we don't find it's achievable to do it in January, too many family do's, too much booze and chocolate to be eaten.
