Le Creuset accident

Hello everybody, and Happy New Year / Blyddyn Newydd Dda.

I have a low sided cast iron enamel casserole, quite large and used daily. Gulp, I left it to warm up on an electric hob, forgot and the result is a burn, enamel has melted in the middle exposing the cast iron. Is it useless, any way of saving it (new ones gulp gulp around £84 in the sales).

Any advice even if it is that the casserole has had it would be welcome, even if bad news.

Thanks/diolch

I dropped the lid in mine and the enamel chipped - they can be re-enamelled but the cost is almost as much as new...

I've carried on using mine and its fine

Is the cast iron really showing, or is the enamel just scorched brown? I have a lot of older Le Creuset with a wide variety of scorches and none of them affect the cooking qualities of the pans. They are designed to be heated to quite volcanic temperatures after all. If it is just brown, you can get a specialist cleaner made by Le Creuset but really, it's just a gentle form of Cif.

In that case, use it as a fruit bowl or plant pot outer. It costs too much to get them re-enamelled. It's a good time of year to be buying le Creuset though..try the sales, local Outlet shop or even Ebay. Lots of people sell Le Creuset on Ebay! It's a good place to get more obscure shapes in discontinued colours.

Oh what a shame. it horrible when something happens to a much loved kitchen item.
Not a le crueset but i had a lidded cermaic big casserole dish. which i always used for chilli. was only a few pound. and i noticed end of last yr it has a huge crack running right accross it. it bite the dust. i was gutted. even tho it was cheap. i've since replaced it. but i did like my old one.

hopefully the sale will be kind to you. not sure where you are but at clarkes shopping village they have a really cheap outlet type place for le cruset.i think they are slight seconds. alot cheaper tho.

i love the deap purple le creuset which is now availble. lush colour.

Aldi's recently had (just before xmas) cast iron casseroles in their specials. They might still have them in stock and they're £20-£30 depending on the size. one of them was a low sided one (I think Le Creuset call them buffet dishes).

Dunelm Mill have an enamelled cast iron dish on sale for about £16 and Morrisons also do a range of enamelled cast iron casseroles etc, if that's any use?
