Would like to say
A big thank you to everyone for all the tips advice and help I have received since becoming a member here! and it all started by reading the thrifty ways book :) I used our breadmaker for the first time all by myself yesterday (hubby did it in the past) after it had been sitting in our shead for the past few years and I…

Aggie and Kim and Minging Toilet brushes!!!
Someone I know bought one of their cleaning books and I was just having a little browse through when I noticed they said you should chuck out your toilet brush as they ming and are harbouring germs. Their suggested method was for keeping gloves specifically for this task and getting your hands into the toilet to get it…

Just wanted to share this with you...
I was at work last week heating up my homemade batch-cooked meals (goody-two-shoes that I am!) Whilst I was in the kitchen I watched a colleague open a tin of tuna, drain the tuna, and put about half the tuna onto her crackers. Pretty ordinary I hear you cry BUT! then she promptly threw the rest of the tuna in the bin! I…

Recipe/Shopping list manager
Does anyone know of a free recipe managing programme that can produce shopping lists. I'm trying to menu plan for the week and it would be great if there was a way to pick out the menus then export the ingredients to a shopping list so that I'm not tempted to spend money on other things or end up buying something that I've…

Old Style living, free days out, etc (guardian magazine)
Todays Guardian has a thick magazine enclosed with all kinds of ideas about how to get food, furnishings for the house, etc for free, eco-friendly tips for living, free days out and activities, etc. Very reminiscent of TWG, etc but could be useful thing to have and keep for the price of a weekend paper.

Antibacterial handwash for delicate skin?
Three family members have eczema and so far the only handwash they can use is Carex. Last time I tried using own brands they cause their skin to flare up but that was several years ago. Anyone got any suggestions? Should we be using an antibacterial at all? Thanks

One is Fun?
Hi All This is my first post on this part of the board; I’ve had a search and can’t seem to find an answer to my dilemma. While all the budget planning and store cupboard challenges are a useful starting point I can’t seem to find anything that relates specifically to buying, cooking and living ‘Old Style’ when you are…

It's no joke - Save your coppers!!
I know it sounds stupid, and people always joke about it, but seriously, save all your 1 and 2 pence pieces!! When I was a kid I used to wander around school and dinner and notice coppers on the ground. so I started collecting them. A year or so ago I was with a friend. He put his hand in his pocket and it was full of…

Urgent pastry advice.
I made 2 fruit pies last week that worked really well. I've just made another one. I added ever so slightly too much water to the pastry mix. I've just baked it for half an hour. The outside edge is nice and hard, but the pastry in the middle is a bit soft and doughy, even though it's yellow on top. Should I cook it for…

Prima Magazine money saving ideas
had to laugh at Prima today, in their money-saving tips article, under 'weekly shop', they said you could save money on a DVD player by going to Aldi on a Thursday. I know Aldi (and Lidl) have some good deals but it's hardly moneysaving if you start picking up electrical items amongst your groceries each week! My…

If I put down a list of all the jobs…

WARNING! Mixing Stardrops and Zoflora
Tonight, I've seen a thread where OS'ers are mixing Stardrops & Zoflora. I have added a warning to that thread and also, after searching to locate where the information was given, added another to the original thread. I am starting a new thread for those who *won't* necessarily read either of those threads. To save writing…
