It's no joke - Save your coppers!!

Options
I know it sounds stupid, and people always joke about it, but seriously, save all your 1 and 2 pence pieces!!

When I was a kid I used to wander around school and dinner and notice coppers on the ground. so I started collecting them. A year or so ago I was with a friend. He put his hand in his pocket and it was full of coppers, so he threw them onto the ground and said he hated them!!

Since I started collecting 1 and 2 pence pieces I've made over £100

  • I read somewhere on here a while ago that a woman had started collecting them while walking her dog and it seemed like a fab idea, so I too have been keeping my eye out more... Not sure how much exactly I've collected but it's probably about 5p per day, just off the streets. I probably look odd to other people but it keeps me amused and makes my day! Occasionally you come across a lovely 5p too :rotfl:

I've always brought all my children up to have the greatest respect for coppers, with the exception of one they wouldn't dream of walking past discarded "treasure"

My mum always recited the rhyme "Find a penny, pick it up, and all day you'll have good luck", so I do this now as a matter of habit. Not too sure about the luck bit though ;)

Yea I do too, Well more saving them than finding them. I used to throw them away when I was at school, but now realise by saving them they all mount up. I usually cash them in once a year and usally have around £30-£50 and to think I would usually have thrown these away.

My nan and grandad are like hawks when it comes to money, they are contsantly picking up coppers anywhere they go. Thats a bit embarassing at my age though.

I do occasionally pick one up if no ones around. Especially at work, people are always leaving them lying around. It just seems a bit tedious.

Its good to be back Rikki, thanks :D

About the same as if you had handled the money when buying or selling I would guess.

When my Mum was young, she used to walk with her head held high and her Dad used to say "what are you walking with your nose stuck in the air - the coppers are on the ground for the taking!!!"
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
