Someone I know bought one of their cleaning books and I was just having a little browse through when I noticed they said you should chuck out your toilet brush as they ming and are harbouring germs.
Their suggested method was for keeping gloves specifically for this task and getting your hands into the toilet to get it really clean.
Just my opinion but surely if you do that you then have minging rubber gloves, even if you wipe them over, equally as minging as a toilet brush which has been dipped into antibacterial cleaner of some type and rinsed under the flushing water.
Just wondered what you all think. I am keeping my loo brush whatever they say.

I wouldn't be putting my hands down the toilet even with rubber gloves on! lol
How do you turn the tap on-touch the soap e.t.c without contaminating them when washing gloves? sometimes they can take things a bit far-I do agree toilet brushes do harbour a lot of germs but I always pour bleach over toilet brush and flush chain over it after cleaning the toilet.
I have many a times considered offering my house to this show (the finished results are lovely!) but I decided it would just be far too embarrasing!:oofficial dfw nerd club member no 214
Proud to be dealing with my debts!;)
Why is a person that handles your money called a broker?!0 -
Hmm, not partial to sticking hand down loo, but also hate toilet brushes.
I use lifeguard toilet cleaner from the cash and carry.. it's fantastic; it took all the limescale off our loo in 5 mins.
I used to be a toilet cleaner, and I can seriously say, it's the most effective way to clean a toilet.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I have never owned or used a toilet brush even the so called "disposable" ones that are aound now. I have to get a bit graphic here I'm afraid and hope no-one is eating. I don't use rubber gloves either.
I have trained my family to put a couple of sqares of paper down before they "go" so that it lands on the paper rather than the toilet bowl then flushes away cleanly. If there is a little remainder on the side of the pan a quick wipe with damp paper so that only the paper touches and not your hands and then another flush and it's gone.
I use one of those in cistern bleachy/coloured block things and top up with the occasional squirt of bleach/toilet duck type stuff if needed. We live in a soft water area so never get troubled with limescale. Maybe this helps and means I don't need a brush.0 -
I'm with you Larmy
I think loo brushes are pretty efficient and agree with you about the gloves getting dirty too.

If I need to use my hands for a nasty job, I use the disposable gloves, wouldn't consider keeping gloves for the job. Loo brush I replace as regular as my tooth brush and clean it after every use. Vinegars great on the limescale. One day I might be more organised...........

You can get a value loo brush for about 50p, we have 3 toilets and they each have a loo brush, I keep them for about 2 months max.0

I wouldn't stick my hands gloved or otherwise down my toilet for a pension! Toilet brushes do a brill job and providing you splash a bit of bleach down the bowl and leave the brush in there to soak for 20 mins or so you can keep them clean and fresh and ig there is the odd germ on it...so what!! What else are you planning on using your toilet brush for except bunging down the bog!Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

I stick me hand down the toilet naked! I put a good squirt of bleach in the toilet and leave it for an hour, then with an old cloth give it a good scrub round.
I aint used those toilet brushes for years, nowt wrong with getting down and dirty with an old cloth and giving it a good scrub by hand.
I dont like rubber gloves as they make my hands itchy so I do it bare back!
Obviously wash my hands afterwards.
There are more dirtier things than cleaning your own toilet what we use a naked hand for.Just think of all the money we touch, how many people have touched it before us who have been to the toilet and not washed their hands,or picked their nose or bum!Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
Lol at Math - but agree entirely, what else are you going to do with your toilet brush?!!!0

Like Impey i use Lifeguard toilet cleaner and also bung bleach in the toilet. It does the job very effectively. I will not use toilet brushes, and when cleaning toilet i use disposible latex gloves.Amazon No:170
