I use a brush but disinfect it regularly. I also replace it regularly.
My question to everyone who doesn't have a brush is, what do you expect any visitors to do if they've left a skiddie in your loo? Do you expect them to clean it by hand too?
I wouldn't do a poo in anyone else's loo if I could help it but I know it doesn't bother some people.0 -

Never had that happen, so they either clean it themselves, or dont do a poo!!!! If someone had left a mark, i would get the spray and keep spraying/flushing until it had gone - dont fancy doing someone elses by hand, no matter how much i wash them afterwards!!!!0 -
Nice to hear everyone's points of view. Mind you I am sure none of our loos are like the ones they have to deal with on the programme!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Yeah that's what I buy, or smart price from ASDA, usually replaced monthly aswell as kept clean. If I wasn't allergic to 99% of household cleaning products, and some alternatives I would probably clean mine barehanded too, wipe your own butt don't ya so why not the loo! Regular cleaning/wiping is fine without gloves as long as no nasty chemicals. One day I might be more organised...........

not very MS is it
buying loo brushes and then throwing them away replacing them every few months.
think of the money wasted and how do you get rid of the brush?? landfil i guess
did you know theres more germs on the average cutting board or dishcloth then on the average toilet seat??
my loo is only a few months old as i have a new bathroom and i use a squirt of bleach every nightIf You See Someone Without A Smile......Give Them One Of Yours0 -
May not be very MS to some, but don't need to buy bleach to do the toilet every night, saving me £1+ a week on a good bleach, and no bleach into the toilet is better for the enviroment, use baking soda if it's grimey, tea tree oil as an anti bacterial, vinegar for limescale, 6 and 2 x 3 I guess. Much less toxic to the envirment than chemicals in bleach or disinfectants. Plastic in the one I bought most recently is stated as 100% recycled and can be recycled where facilities are available. I can reuse my loo brush, and just personal preference replaces it more often. I can't reuse bleach.
Chopping board is cleaned after each use, as is every dish cloth, as soon as the washing up is done it's put in a dish (lidded) for the wash, I do the same with my mop, washed daily, I know not all do but I am a bit too fussy maybe when it comes to things like that. One day I might be more organised...........

Ideal solution IMHO would be a loo brush designed to be replaced frequently, using some kind of biodegradeable material (though not too rapidly biodegradable or it would disintegrate during use!)
I appreciate what Kim and Aggie say about not having one, but I have one mainly for the reason jackieb mentioned. If a visitor leaves, um, evidence - and let's face it, if somebody isn't in the habit of pooing in someone else's loo but is unexpectedly caught short, then that, err, is quite likely to be the sort of, umm, thing that might, errr, leave evidence - what can they do? Brush it out with "minging" loo brush, wash it out with "minging" rubber gloves, or if none of the above are available, be left with two choices... clean it with their bare hands and then come back to your dinner table (ewwwwwww!) or leave it there and be embarrassed?!Operation Get in Shape

Plastic gloves (biodegradable) http://www.biobags.co.uk/products.html can be bought here. Plastic glove on, wipe off the icky mess left by said visitor with enviro friendly loo roll once hands are covered, bicarb if needed to shift any last bits if it's for some reason been left a while (if you've got kids you have poop wiped before anyway) remove gloves carefully without touching with bare hands (well practised at this) then bin it! Borax is good instead of disinfectant, I have a little Zoflora left but once that is gone think I will be using just Borax. Enviro friendly and money saving on chemicals too
Not arguing of course, everyone has their views and ways, I used to be a bleach it and leave it a bit girl, until I looked in to what damage bleach does! Aswell as getting sick of bleach staining my clothes by accident. This forum has taught me to look for alternatives to save money and the enviromentBefore that I had every chemical going.
http://www.timetorecycle.com/hhw/index.asp some useful ideas there on alternatives to harmful chemicals. One day I might be more organised...........

I have no problem with loo brushes - I put a squirt of toilet cleaner in the holder and it's fine.
If it's looking a bit grubby, I squirt toilet cleaner around the toilet, as if going to clean it, and then swish the toilet brush around it, leaving it sitting the toilet cleaner overnight. Rinse in the morning and it's nice and clean.0
