And what's wrong with washing your hands after cleaning the toilet, instead of wearing gloves? Marigold type gloves I can understand, but using disposable latex ones seems a bit wasteful.

Soap is a wonderful antibacterial cleaner - you don't need any fancy Microban or antibiotic this that or t'other!

Yes tea tree soap is a great anti bac (natural) I don't use chemical ones any more, I do use the disposable gloves if dealing with something my skin will react to out of necessity, not vanity. Latex I am also allergic to, so marigolds out of the question also.

Also it is very very rare I have to clean the toilet with any form of bicarb etc, as it is done daily, I use the gloves once a month if that for the very very thorough clean after I have used the same gloves to clean the bath, then the shower, then the sink, in that order followed by the toilet. So I suppose they do get a good using each time aswell. Wiping with water and vinegar regularly I don't use the gloves, just bare hands and clean them thoroughly. Sometimes just spray the vinegar on and leave.

Bicarb and Borax just goes on the brush so don't need them for that. Not really wasting much, ok if I used them daily it would be wasteful. I suppose it's one of those jobs if you keep on top of it don't need harmful chemicals etc.

:rotfl: understandable then, I did have to keep mine well out of the way when the boys were little as they used to want to clean it themselves, not something I would let a little one do. I've stopped buying bleach all together now, not missing the fumes (which my son found unbearable anyway so couldn't use it when he was in) Vinegar, borax, lemon juice and bicarb is now in my bathroom cleaning kit. If they don't shift the stains from the loo I figured I must be leaving it too long. TBH they all do a darn good job! I was impressed.

I followed this guide at first, now I don't need to do the harsh one so often as it's kept on top of, vinegar spray daily, bicarb if needed.
Baking Soda and Vinegar. Sprinkle baking soda into
the bowl, then drizzle with vinegar and scour with a
toilet brush. This combination both cleans and deodorizes.

Borax and Lemon Juice. For removing a stubborn stain,
like toilet bowl ring, mix enough borax and lemon juice
into a paste which can cover the entire ring. Flush
toilet to wet the sides, then rub on paste. Let sit for 2
hours and scrub thoroughly. For less stubborn toilet bowl
rings, sprinkle baking soda around the rim and scrub with
    a toilet brush.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: i dont use rim blocks after one of my little darlings flushed one down the loo and caused a blockage! Prob another reason why i dont have a toilet brush, goodness knows what they would do with it!
Like lil_me, i try to use as few chemical products as i can, but do like my stardrops, and i do use some toilet duck every now and again, more because i like the smell than its cleaning properties!
Personally, i dont think anyones ways are right or wrong, its what suits them that counts, im sure everyone knows if they are being clean and hygenic, and its the people on Kim and Aggies show that dont really care that are the real mingers!!!!

I've got bathroom cleaning rubber gloves. I normally take a bucket of soapy water in and clean the wash basin and the bath first. Then I clean the cistern, seat, the then loo itself. When I'm finished, I wash my gloves in the bucket of water before tipping it away.

I've never used rim blocks since I caught my then toddler taking it out the loo when my back was turned to suck on
Here I go again on my own....

Rim blocks are so hazardous aren't they, when I used them my friends son took one out and put it on the cistern (he'd never seen one before, thought someone had dropped it) the blue stain was horrific to get off! Haven't used one since. Must admit I did like those artificial smells before, then realised that is all they were, smells to mask odours, now I don't need to :)

Correct, everyone like I said has their own way, I wouldn't dream of TELLING someone what to use, or that I thought it was wasteful etc, as it is up to them, but I will state my opinion of course. I use stardrops, but very very diluted when I do, a bottle has lasted me months so far (I shouldn't have bought 3 bottles) Soda crystals also but again sparingly.

I save on average £40 a month at the minute on chemicals compared to last year, I used to use at least 2-3 bottles of bleach a week plus many more, and all I was doing was probably making the nasty germs more immune to the stuff. Maybe more if I am totally honest, if there was a new chemical out I bought it. Now that is money saving!

I use a brush but disinfect it regularly. I also replace it regularly.

My question to everyone who doesn't have a brush is, what do you expect any visitors to do if they've left a skiddie in your loo? Do you expect them to clean it by hand too?

I wouldn't do a poo in anyone else's loo if I could help it but I know it doesn't bother some people. :o

I wear gloves if someone else has left a deposit in the toilet but I have no qualms about cleaning it off.

Well I use toilet cleaner about once a week and then when doing the flylady swish and swipe (try every day - not always successful:o ) a small squirt of Boots economy bath foam. I understand it is the scrubbing of it every day that keeps limescale at bay. Read it somewhere. I use a bit of toilet paper to do the wipe around the top and round those thingys that hold the toilet seat on, then flush!!!

I hate, hate, hate cleaning around the back of the loo and the sides so that is a more special job.

I also use up any gruesome smelly bubble bath things I get for Christmas down the loo too.

I would never ever use those disposable brushes, they seem like the complete opposite of being green.

lil_me: You can get nitrile (ie latex free) Marigold type gloves if you would like a reusable set of gloves. We have to use latex free gloves at work because of potential allergies; larger supermarkets should stock latex-free type marigolds.
