I was at work last week heating up my homemade batch-cooked meals (goody-two-shoes that I am!) Whilst I was in the kitchen I watched a colleague open a tin of tuna, drain the tuna, and put about half the tuna onto her crackers. Pretty ordinary I hear you cry BUT! then she promptly threw the rest of the tuna in the bin!
I was shocked and kind of angry! I would have taken it out of the bin myself and eaten it but I am vegetarian.
Previous to this some weeks ago we had had a conversation about struggling with money and budgets......
Sorry just had to get this off my chest...or maybe I should get out more!

That's really wasteful. I have a colleague who uses bottled water to make the tea because he thinks it tastes better! :eek:0

I also HATE to see food go to waste. Its just the way i have been bought up, my mum could make something lovely out of virtually not a lot.
Some people just dont feel anything throwing food away i mean i do have to bin things sometimes but on the whole i try to be careul.0 -
I agree - that is so wasteful!
It takes no effort at all to pop the remainder in a container and into the fridge for tomorrow's lunch!
I also throw away when I have to - but with careful planning and a bit of forethought those occasions are very rare indeed (I am queen of freezing...)Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!

My mum owns a little cafe where I help out on a Sunday and she throws allsorts away. Breadcakes by the dozen, loaves of bread that are still good, bakewell tarts and custard tarts and they are large ones too! Left over beans/toms and tons more. Since reading these boards and realising how much I can do with very little I have told her not to throw anymore away and to give them me instead. I have loads to bring home with me on a sunday. I hate to see anything going to waste0

Just keep an eye on your waistline Bex
Incidentally I once retrieved a 1/4 eaten fabulous M&S cake from a bin at work (it was still boxed!) and if it were not for my middle age spread I might have had more than one slice. Thinking now, I could have bought it home and frozen it.!;) Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Thank goodness I am not alone. I feel so much better for knowing there are like-minded people around!"Debt makes plans for you" - A quote from my friend Catherine. How true!0

You could maybe encourage her to get those dinky little tins of tuna, they may cost a bit more but at least they won't end up in the bin.0
