Car Accident - Do I claim?
We had a collision back in May in which involved a 3 car pile up we were at the back. Insurers decided we had to take the blame. The car in front slammed on and everyone went into the back of him causing a knock on affect. Me and my 2 yr old daughter were in the car at the time and my husband was driving. It was a hugely…

Travel Insurance
We've booked a holiday and paid a deposit and don't pay the balance for 3 months. As we have pre-existing medical conditions the travel insurance is 4 times the cost of the deposit. It surely must be best to wait till we pay the balance of the holiday before we purchase the insurance. Any thoughts please.

Refusal to renew insurance policy
Hello, I've recently decided to buy contents insurance after not having cover for a few years. Filling in the forms on the various comparison websites has lead to a problem I was unaware existed. I'd been a hobby photographer for years and had always had separate camera insurance for my cameras and equipment. I'd been…

AA Breakdown cover cancellation but no refund
Hi, I called the AA for cancelling my annual car breakdown & rapair cover as I've sold the car. I've been advised they won't refund me a penny for cancellation. They have offered I can freeze it which doesn't work for me as I have 3 year breakdown cover from new car manufacturer. I also pay annually for car insurance and…

Broker or Comparison site for Insurance?
On Watchdog the other day they had an 'independent insurance expert' which claimed it's better to use a broker rather than comparison site when choosing insurance. He was referring to quality and like for like insurance as well as cheapness, since brokers supposedly can provide the cheapest insurer for your requirements. I…

Compensation for high admin charge
Hi, I recently moved house and notified my car insurer of a change of address. I was expecting perhaps a small admin charge, but was surprised when they said it would be £80! When I queried this I was told by the agent that it was due to the admin charge and a higher premium. I queried why it would be higher as the area I…

Royal Sun Alliance contact email address
After owning my own home for 11 years, I've just received a renewal notice from RSA for "Cover-Modular Home" for someone who has never owned my house ever and who doesn't reside here. The address and postcode are correct suggesting this isn't an error. It's a renewal of the policy (not a new policy with the usual…

We have recently been charged an extra 40% on top of our annual premium due to someone else driving into our parked car...we are a victim and now the insurance companies deem this to be a 'at fault' claim...this is wrong how can this be our fault....I suggest 3 categories instead of the current 2 'at fault' & 'non fault'…

When does Excess mean Excess + Excess?
Maybe it's me, but I always assumed (silly me) that Home Insurance excess meant a 'one-off' payment would be required. However, Halifax Home Insurance has just explained to me that if it's a water leakage or a subsidence claim then there would be an excess payment on top of my agreed excess claim payment... oh really????…

Inappropriate life insurance - Abacus.
My son is 19 years old and in the Army, having served now for 2 years. He has just taken out life insurance and critical illness/accident insurance for £80,000 for a 40 year term, having had some time with a representative from Abacus on his Army base. He also took out some military kit insurance. I have hit the roof, not…

Car insurance auto-renewal boo-boo, but not yet paid
So, I made a very silly error and forgot to cancel the auto-renewal on my car insurance when I switched. But when the date arrived I received an email from them saying they'd failed to take the money from my account (it turns out this was because it was on my old debit card). So I stupidly dismissed it thinking problem…

Floods and house insurance
We live in an area that is within 400m of a canal. For this reason we have to pay a premium on our insurance. Over the years this has gone up & up. We have recently spoken to some friends who live in a different area and they have had flood doors fitted ( free) which is intended to reduce their insurance. I can't find out…
