Broker or Comparison site for Insurance?

On Watchdog the other day they had an 'independent insurance expert' which claimed it's better to use a broker rather than comparison site when choosing insurance. He was referring to quality and like for like insurance as well as cheapness, since brokers supposedly can provide the cheapest insurer for your requirements. I think the issue of raised insurance premiums for irrelevant events, was under scrutiny, such as an accident which was no fault of your own, or even a non-claim enquiry.
What are your experiences? Is he correct?

On fee basis, an IFA would be cheaper than a comparison site but then you would pay the fee.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

For most a comparison site will always be the cheapest, these premiums have been heavily discounted in order to win and build a book of business.
Certain factors may mean a broker is best, I.e. Imported vehicle, modifications, no claims letter from a company car etc0 -

Certain factors may mean a broker is best, I.e. Imported vehicle, modifications, no claims bonus from a company car, foreign no claims bonus etc.
These discounts are often at the expense of quality/amount of cover.
If cheapest possible is what drives you then you're right but if quality is important then a Broker can add more value. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0
