small hole in roof

on Saturday morning my wife discoverd dampness in one of our built in wardrobes upstairs on investigation I noticed a small hole about 8in by 5in in our roof near the point where the chimney exits.
In a bit of a panic due to the weather up here ( Durham) I called our insurance company and we are now expecting there surveyor out this Friday.
I have a £100 excess on the policy and would like to know if proven to be storm damage who pays for the repair ? I know the insurance will pay for any damage done which is minimum but who pays for the actual repair ?

You need to "win" the storm damage argument first - just because the hole appeared doesn't mean the storm caused it - it may be due to poor maintenance, happened earlier and the damp has now "travelled" to part of the house where it's been spotted.
Assuming you win, then the repair should be covered by your policy.
(It's better to be sure you are going to make a claim before contacting your insurer like this, as irrespective of whether or not you make a successful claim this incident will now be down on your record as a "loss" and will have to be disclosed to other insurers who ask about your claims and losses history when getting quotes in future years)
If water is pouring in, can you afford to wait another week before the inspector calls? Maybe worth getting a local roofer to have a look now0 -
I agree with all you say Quentin it was the funding of the repair I was unsure of as in a previous claim with a different company last year for a burst pipe we had to bear the cost of repair as the insurer would only locate, expose and make good after we had the burst repaired.Keep in your thoughts the poor Beasts of burden around the World and curse All who do them harm.0
