BG 2011 Fix v BG Click
I am aware that this thread might cause apoplexy amongst those resolutely opposed to any form of fixed tariff, but it is worth at least considering the arguments for and against. I have worked out the difference between BG's Standard tariff and BG Click 5 for the consumption of 'Mr Average UK' e.g. 20,500/3,300 kWh…

How to switch - When to switch - Who to switch to...please help.
Hello all. I wonder if there is some kind soul that will take pity on me. I have just spent the last 2 hours going through USwitch, Moneysupermarket and energy helpline trying to seek a better deal for my gas and electric. Despite being in credit of over £100, my current supplier (npower) is demanding an increase in…

Scottish and Southern Con Artists
Sat at home yesterday and a S&S "area manager" knocked on my door. Said he was following up their letter I had received. I had had nothing of the sort. Apparently their "readings from your meter" had flagged me up as being eligible for their best rates! I'm not with them and have not made any contact with them! "It will…

Price Increases
What obligations do Energy Suppliers have when they announce a price increase? Do they have to tell each customer or just the media? I am sure I only found out about Click Energy 4 increase two months after it happened and I don't want the same thing to happen with the Click Energy 5 increase.

Lodgers have been leaving heating/water on all the time so I would like to move the thermostat/controls to my bedroom so I can set it on a timer to come on only when the temperature falls below a certain level & at fixed times - early morning & early evenings. Is there a charge for this & if so how much is it please?

cooking without gas
i thought i was being clever, cooking double quantities of dinner and freezing half to defrost and microwave another day. the first time i tried microwaving the frozen individual portions, it took 12 mins to defrost 3 portions and 9 mins to reheat them all in total. this means the microwave was in use for 21 mins! even if…

Advice re: electric/gas charges
Hello I've recently moved into a property that has a matrixmetering meters installed. Last week the warden charged us £2 for an electric card for 20 kwh (of electric) and this week it has risen to £3! I have found matrixmetering's website and they say that £2 is only a guide price and that pricing is between the landlord…

Electric Central Heating
just a shot in the dark, has anyone had experience of Aztec Electric Boilers? Have you had any problems with them. Do they keep you nice and warm?

Gas meter nicked for second time
The gas meter at my flat has been nicked for the second time in 2 months. Doing the whole crime reference numbers etc to start the ball rolling to get another installed. This time they didnt nick the copper pipework going up the wall thankfully, so should be a quicker install. Anyone got any ideas of what could be fitted…

EDF Energy - Breach their own T&C's
EDF Energy recently wrote to me informing me of a price rise on the 25th July 2008 I received the letter on the 23rd of August, 30 Days after the increase. It wasn't easy as EDF hide the notice required in their terms and conditions by stating they will notify us all in accordance with their "Supply License" I tracked a…

Replace 33 year old gas boiler with gas or electric?
Wondering if any of you could give me some advice. We have a 33 year old (is this a record?) Potterton diplomat open flue boiler in our flat in its original compartment/cupboard - in the middle of the flat i.e. no outside walls. We have recently had a Corgi engineer service it and he pointed out that we have a ventilation…

Atlantic E&G - '13th month rebate'
I'm with Atlantic for both fuels and, at the time I switched to them a couple of years back, they were certainly one of the better performers on price. Also I've found them to be pretty on the ball on cutomer service so generally I have no gripes. However, as Martin is now recommending switching, I'm wondering whether…

Service of boiler and earth bonding
Okay - my boiler was installed in 2000 by British Gas and was serviced every year under their homecare agreement yearly. No problems - in my infinite wisdom I changed over to N Power / Homecare. They sent a local firm out to service my boiler and supposidly it isn't earth bonded! Now should this have been done at…

Freezer Boost/ fast freeze button - save electricity
:j Have just found my freezer was on the boost/super/fast freeze (varies in name with manufacturer) setting, and its anyones guess how long it has been for. Worth checking as uses a lot more electricity, and you cant get the ice cream out of the tub as it is too hard! (In fact, hard ice cream could allert you to this…

1000 Bonus Clubcard Points with Eon
I was in Tesco last week and they were offering a bonus of 1000 clubcard points if you switched in store. I've been looking on the comparison sites and I'm considering Eon but then I read Martin's switching article and took heed of the on-line tariff warning. I just rang Eon to see if their on-line tariffs had been…

An idea to save on your gas bill
I turned my hot water tap on to wash my hands after using the loo. Of course I then remembered to post an idea I excerised in the summer. Rather than washing your hands with warm water, making my combi boiler fire up for the sake of 15 seconds (and the water is barely warm by then anyway) - why not wash your hands in cold…
