An idea to save on your gas bill
Options
I turned my hot water tap on to wash my hands after using the loo. Of course I then remembered to post an idea I excerised in the summer.
Rather than washing your hands with warm water, making my combi boiler fire up for the sake of 15 seconds (and the water is barely warm by then anyway) - why not wash your hands in cold water? Or take it a step further, and turn the boiler off and force everybody to wash their hands with cold water?
I did this in summer, and to my surprise nobody complained - or they just never noticed, because the warm water takes so long to come through.
Let me know what you think - going too far?

Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.

Are you sure it wasn't just that nobody else bothers to wash their hands?0

I've been doing the same (washing hands in cold) for about 6 weeks now. Not sure I'll keep it up as the water gets colder come winter, though.
When we had a hot water tank, I never gave using the gas a second thought, and would even rinse pots/pans in hot water before filling the sink to wash up. Now we've got the combi and I'm aware of it every time it fires up, it's really made me think twice0 -

I stopped having hot water on tap about 4 years ago. Never looked back and save probably more than a hundred pounds a year. Washing up just need to boil 1 kettle. Seems such a waste having a tamnk full of hot water heating up my airing cupboard for the case of about 4 handwashes a day.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -

That's what I thought, so we have now converted our airing cupboard into our 'drying area' by the simple idea of putting all the towels that were stored there into an ottoman and placing hooks/rails in the space above the hot water tank. Warmest room in the house and now (effectively!) a FREE tumble dryer!Call me Carmine....

Really miss my airing cupboard now I have a combi boiler. Don't think twice about using hot water to wash up or wash my hands. Am happy to pay for that.0

Surely if you boil a kettle for washing up it will probably cost more than if you run off what you need using gas!!
I certainly prefer the combi boiler, but as i am about to go onto a water meter it will irk a bit about the waste of water as it runs through while warming up.There are only so many receptacles you can fill in a day!!0 -
I visit relations in Holland a lot and if they have a separate WC, there is never a hot water tap. The small hand washing basins only have one tap hole for the cold supply and that's it, you have no choice!Marsh Samphire0

There is a reason why you should wash your hands in warm water.
It kills many germs, it opens up the pores of your skin and when using soap helps clean your hands0
