Am I Being Ripped Off

Hi i was wondering if anyone else has had this prob. When my partner was out of work i had a bill for £252 which i couldnt pay all at once, so i asked for card meter to be fitted to pay off debt. I have just found out tonight that they have actually put 3 x what i owed on as debt.Is this legal i have no way of finding out how much i have already paid off and it is showing i owe £697 , this is shocking . Im going to ring in morning to find out what they are playing at. I cant see how they have the right to put £500 more than what we actually owed.

I have no experience of card meters but I assume you must get some sort of bill or record showing the units used and costings. Did you not get something at the outset detailing unit cost with a breakdown of how this is made up? If not, I would ask for that.

I have just been told it was a mistake that they had put it on 3 x cheeky sods. If british gas energy watch hadnt come round to check my standing charge had been removed i would never have known . They told me it happens all the time.
Scottish southern electric are now going to send me a card i have to put in and record everything on my meter so they can take it off. I think im going to take this further because how many people have they done it to and how much have i already had taken off.
